Dallas Officer Who Killed Man in His Own Home Says He Ignored Her Commands
The New York Times ^ | 10 September 2018 | Sarah Mervosh and Matthew Haag

A Dallas police officer who fatally shot her neighbor in his apartment, claiming she mistook the unit for her own, told the authorities that the door was already ajar when she entered and that she shot him after he ignored verbal commands, according to court records released on Monday.

The officer, Amber R. Guyger, 30, who has been charged with manslaughter, could face additional charges in a case that has led to accusations that the officer received preferential treatment and debate about whether race may have played a role in the deadly encounter between a white police officer and a black man in his home.

On Monday, the Dallas County district attorney, Faith Johnson, insisted that the investigation into the death of the neighbor, Botham Shem Jean, 26, had not ended and that her office could seek charges “including anything from murder to manslaughter.”

“We’ll present a thorough case to the grand jury so that a right decision can be made,” Ms. Johnson said at a news conference.

“when a police officer enters my home without permission or warrant and issues “verbal commands”, there’s a problem and it’s not with me”

That is exactly right. What in the sam hell is going on here?! Did not respond to her commands?! In his own home?!

And they have the gall to only charge ber with manslaughter? His life was taken by recklesness? No, no, this statement of hers proves intent. This is murder.

It seems the thin blue line, drips more and more with the blood of American citizens, everyday.

She needs to be convicted and jailed. She broke into the guy's house, gave him orders, then shot him. Too bad he wasn't armed to shoot and kill her first.

I am curious to see if she was drunk or high at the time. Not an excuse, should add more to sentence if she was impaired and armed IN UNIFORM.

... or believes that the risks inherent in shooting someone, like murder charges, wouldn’t apply to her because of her employment status.

...well, if she did it for no reason, that would qualify as impairment: insanity.

See My Post #29

SC- great call on Folical Testing.

Wrong Apartment was 1st grasping at straws.

B.S. on the Shift. That was the 2nd grasping at straws try.

Now 3rd is “Following Commands”

Faked/Tampered Blood Test will be 4th or 5th.

I’m sure they have at least 1 or 2 more in the queue.

An amazing sequence of events lead to the shooting, if you believe them.

The latest report is that the door was slightly ajar, so when she put her key in the door it opened. The apartment is dark, she sees the outline of a person, shouts out some kind of command and gets off 2 shots in the dark and hits the victim in the torso. In the dark. THEN she turns on the lights to discover she's in the wrong apartment.

Yes, MURDER. Killed him because he didn’t follow commands. How entitled that sounds. She broke in and murdered the guy in his own home.

I have a real problem with “did not follow my commands”. Who in the heck do they think they are? We are American citizens! This crap has got to stop.

Why does it take two writers for a column in the NY Slime?

Two...three...four... It doesn't even matter how many writers the Slimes uses...their columns still always suck.

"Two halfwits equals what?"

Yeah, I probably should have thought this all the way through, because adding halfwits together is like adding negative numbers. Two halfwits actually equals one quarter-wit. The NYT will need to include some morons to have any hope of moving into positive territory.

so when she put her key in the door it opened

...well, well

nice try, but if I'm sober and my key doesn't turn the knob (or deadbolt) I might stop and think before I shoot someone.

“It sounds like a tragic accident to me. She had only lived there a very short time. The parking garages and doors all look alike. She had just gotten off a 15 hour shift. She was off duty.”

A Dallas Country jury will decide if those are valid excuses for shooting a man in his own home.

If I’m sober cop and my door is unlocked when I get home, I don’t go in. I call for backup.

It was a horrible accident

No it wasn't an "accident." An accident would be if she dropped her gun and it went off killing him. She shot him with the intent of killing him. This was no accident it was either a malicious act (murder) or an incredibly bad decision (manslaughter), But it was NOT an accident.
