An amazing sequence of events lead to the shooting, if you believe them.

The latest report is that the door was slightly ajar, so when she put her key in the door it opened. The apartment is dark, she sees the outline of a person, shouts out some kind of command and gets off 2 shots in the dark and hits the victim in the torso. In the dark. THEN she turns on the lights to discover she's in the wrong apartment.

nice try, but if I'm sober and my key doesn't turn the knob (or deadbolt) I might stop and think before I shoot someone.
