In the landmark case of District of Columbia v. Heller, Cruz drafted the amicus brief signed by the attorneys general of 31 states, which said that the Washington, D.C. handgun ban should be struck down as infringing upon the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.
Cruz successfully defended the constitutionality of the Ten Commandments monument on the Texas State Capitol grounds before the Fifth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court, winning 5–4 in Van Orden v. Perry.
In 2004, Cruz won the high-profile case surrounding a challenge to the constitutionality of requiring student recitation in public schools of the Pledge of Allegiance (including the words "under God", legally a part of the Pledge since 1954), Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow.
Cruz also successfully defended, in Medellin v. Texas, the State of Texas against an attempt to re-open the cases of 51 Mexican nationals, all of whom were convicted of murder in the United States and were on death row.

Cruz's victory in the Republican primary was described by the Washington Post as "the biggest upset of 2012 ... a true grassroots victory against very long odds". In the Republican senatorial primary, Cruz ran against sitting Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst. Cruz was endorsed first by former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

In a November 2014 Senate speech, Cruz accused the president of being "openly desirous to destroy the Constitution and this Republic". In the same speech, Cruz invoked the speeches of the ancient Roman senator Cicero against Catiline to denounce Obama's planned executive actions on immigration reform.
Cruz has repeatedly said that the 2015 international nuclear agreement with Iran "will make the Obama administration the world's leading financier of radical Islamic terrorism".
After the death of Associate Justice Antonin Scalia, Cruz expressed his view that the winner of the 2016 U.S. presidential election, rather than President Obama, should appoint a new Justice.
In June 2016, Cruz blamed the Obama administration for the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting, reasoning that it did not track the perpetrator Omar Mateen properly while he was on the terrorist watch list.
Following the terrorist attack on Nice, France, Cruz said in a statement that the country was at risk as a result of the Obama administration having a "willful blindness" in regards to radical Islamists.
With the passing of Fidel Castro in November, Cruz charged Obama with celebrating and lionizing Castro in public statements he made addressing the death.
On December 28, after Secretary of State John Kerry gave a speech defending the U.S.'s decision to allow a U.N. resolution to pass, which condemned Israeli settlements "on land meant to be part of a future Palestinian state", Cruz denounced the speech as "disgraceful", and that history would preserve both Obama and Kerry as "relentless enemies of Israel". Cruz also accused the Obama administration of having a "radical anti-Israel agenda".
He is now 47 years old.

I think it’s a ploy that both Trump and Cruz are in on. Suggest he may lose. Trump then parachutes in for a rally ‘out of fear’ that Cruz may lose. Democrats pour money in as well as resources. This is money that could be spent elsewhere. So Cruz wins by less than expected thereby giving the rats bragging rights. He will win. Do you really think the WHOLE state of Texas will support someone who considers Kapernick a hero? The thought of Cruz losing is not worth the time to think about it but anything is possible. Let the Rats think just that.

Because the Left is near-orgasmic at the prospect of taking any GOP state-wide seat from Texas. Trump won TX by 9%. Cruz is still polling at +4%, but was +9% earlier this year.
In Texas, with about 9m votes in 2016, that 5% swing is about 450,000 votes.
Anything that gives the Dems possible national traction in a solid Right-wing state should be opposed.
IF this is true (and I kind of doubt it), President Trump needs to haul Mulvaney’s ass into the Oval Office and tell him to keep his F-ing yap shut ... even better, THEN, bring Mulvaney with him when Trump conducts the Mother-of-all rallies in Texas on behalf of Trump and have Mulvaney either apologize or deny, depending upon what’s appropriate ... You know how many people swore that they would never again - at no point in the future, no matter how far along - do business with Nike?
I’d wager there are a lot of people who feel that way about Cruz after he used a platform given to him at Trump’s nominating convention to tell people to go vote for Hillary Clinton.
And that ain’t the only deal-breaker from that campaign. Naming Fiorina as his VP choice AFTER he had already lost the race was a literally insane move.
Hopefully the Texas GOP can get its act together to replace this guy in the next cycle.

But what he spoke was truth. Cruz just isn’t likable, no matter how conservative he is. Whether that causes him to lose is another question. I would hope that Texans would overlook any personality defects in favor of policy positions, votes to support the POTUS, to keep a R majority in the Senate.
