Then you are buying the NYT narrative that this hit piece was indeed written by a disloyal staffer within the Trump administration? Why would you believe them?
Trump’s choice of words is very interesting - he seems to be casting doubt on whether the piece was written by someone within his administration, as claimed. Note that he is asking Sessions to investigate who wrote it, not who leaked it. Note that he’s questioning NYT journalistic integrity. Note that he’s making the NYT decision to publish it an issue of national security. Never in Trump’s statement does he concede that so done in his administration leaked anything.
I think what Trump is doing is very clever - he is calling the NYT’s bluff - challenging them to put up or shut up - to prove that the source is truly someone from within the Trump Administration.
By making it an issue of national security, Trump has upped the anti:
If it is truly a leak, Trump’s White House looks bad, because the WH lack of control over leaks is jeopardizing national security.
If it is NOT a leak and is fake news, invented by the NYT, the NYT looks very bad - by knowingly publishing misinformation intended to sabotage and disrupt the office of the commander in chief - the NYT is jeopardizing national security.
Apparently, Trump suspects it is fake news and is putting the NYT in a box where they have to try and prove its not.
Either way, Trump wins, because the only way the NYT can prove it is a leak is by revealing who the leaker is.

Trump needs to release all the withheld info in DOJ/FBI and all the other sources he must know about from Admr Rogars (NSA) and other sources (the 119 good guys with in govt and FBI who want to come forward but no one will listen - NOW...why hasn’t he and expose all the criminals we know for sure tried and still are trying to overthrow our elected leader...maybe there are ones in there that will be too surprising on the repub side too...just before the election...for some reason someone is chicken sh*t to release the hounds...but it is his only way to stop all of this once and for all. Folks have to go to jail... by the 10s and 100s...

Is he going to up the anti and get clever and quit talking about the damn NFL and release some damning info on the criminals BEFORE the elections to do some damn good at winning them to get this ongoing and on going and on going mess behind us!

Trump is steering a huge ship - he can’t make it turn on a dime. Not just the USA but the entire free world has been headed in the wrong direction for nearly a century.
I think Trump is going to be the gift that keeps on giving for generations to come - there is plenty to appreciate already - but there is a political realignment happening because of Trump that is much more far reaching than any criminal indictments of Obama era co conspirators.
They might not go to jail, but they’ll wind up in the dust bin of history where even a presidential pardon won’t save them.
The Justice Department is for criminal investigations. The article definitely deserves a White House investigation to weed “Anonymous” out of the administration, but I’m not sure a DOJ investigation is called for.
About as much as that kid at the restaurant, when you tell him not to spit in your salad.
