Dallas police say one of their officers was going home after her shift when she walked into the wrong apartment and shot and killed the man inside.
The officer was in full uniform just after 10 p.m. Thursday evening when she walked into an apartment unit she believed to be her own at the 1200 block of South Lamar, about a quarter-mile from the Dallas Police Department.

They haven't ID'd the cop yet. Why not?
Thanks. That might put it beyond the reach of Internal Affairs.
Why will probably be obvious when they do.

The article says she is on administrative leave but does not say that she is in custody. Had any one of us done this, we would be sitting in the slammer.

Hmmm....there is a strange man in my apartment and he broke in an exchanged my furniture with his. ?
I worked with a few good female officers over the years, but there were some who were completely clueless. The problem with any government job is that it is hard to get rid of the clueless. Once they get past their probationary period they can get away with an unbelievable amount of nonsense with nothing happening to them. This is exponentially true when the clueless person is female or some other protected race or class.
Unlikely that’s her.

It doesn't take Anne Oakley to hit a man sized target on the other side of the room.
Walking into the wrong apartment can definitely happen by accident, and you don’t even have to be drunk to do it. I did it once (but only once). As a university student, I lived on the second floor and had three roommates. It wasn’t at all unusual for the door to be unlocked during the day, so I typically tried to open the door before going to the trouble of taking the key out of my pocket. On this particular day, I was probably distracted as I walked up the stairs. I didn’t realize that I had walked up to the third floor instead of the second. I opened the door (it happened to be unlocked) and walked into the living room...suddenly realizing that the furniture was all different! I quickly realized it wasn’t my apartment and walked out immediately. Luckily nobody else was inside, or at least, not in the living room!
I’d say. It’ll be interesting to see who she is.
