There is no Republican because the top two candidates in the primaries face off in the general, regardless of party. California put this law in a couple of years ago. I believe Kamala Harris ran against one of the Sanchez sisters from LA in the general for her Senate seat.

There was some race that was “in danger” of having two Republicans. I think as soon as that happens twice, the law will be reversed.

In the situation where there are two Democrats running, the Republicans actually become the “King Makers”. It puts the Democrats in a weird position of trying to snag some Republican vote without alienating their base.

I am voting for De Leon. He will go to Congress as a very low seniority member. His positions will also be SO out of the mainstream that Democrats will have to disown him.
