The New York Attorney General's office on Thursday reportedly subpoenaed all eight of the state's Roman Catholic dioceses, as it escalates a major investigation into any allegations into sex crimes against children committed and covered up by priests.

The civil subpoenas, issued by New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood, request documents related to sexual abuse accusations, possible payments made to victims, and potential findings of any internal church probes, according to the Associated Press.

The investigation follows the release in August of a damning 1,356-page Pennsylvania grand jury report, which detailed accusations of molestation from more than 1,000 children dating back to the 1950s at the hands of 300-plus "predator" Catholic priests across the state.

"The PA grand jury report exposed incredibly disturbing, depraved acts by Catholic clergy, assisted by a culture of secrecy and cover ups in the dioceses," Underwood wrote on Twitter. "Victims in NY deserve to be heard as well. We are going to do everything in our power to bring them the justice they deserve."

What did the NJ and NY Attorneys General know, and when did they know it?

Now that is a great question. These predators would not have been able to get away with what they did without protection from state and local government and media. Don't fool yourself. They knew--and many of them were in on the racket.

In the PA report, there were numerous cases where authorities WERE TOLD what had happened, and they handed it back to the Diocese to handle as an "internal matter"... I guess the political cost of arresting a priest (even one who without question had sex with children) would have been too high for them. Interesting that Shapiro says so little about that...

T Y 4 posting link. Here in the Albany Diocese, we were all aware of Hubbard’s reign of terror, and his heresies. I never met one Catholic (clergy or laity) who supported his policies.

Hubbard didn’t care, he never even tried to hide it. Apparently, he was well skilled at hiding the abuse, however, because we had never heard whispers regarding practicing homosexuals other than the queerness at the seminary.

My parish is 100 miles from the chancery, so we didn’t have an inside source. It sickens me that Hubbard Confirmed my son! I know it doesn’t affect the validity of the Sacrament, but still, Hubbard’s participation in some way disgraces it...
