Crazy as they were then, the current dem party makes the party in 1972 look like it was being led by George Washington himself. They've broken all prior records on crazy levels over the last 150 years.
They've gone so far, at the highest levels of their party now, that I don't see how they ever walk it back. It's sort of like the fistfights breaking out in the congress during the 1850s, the situation wasn't going to just sort itself out after that and go back to being a reasonable debate society that disagrees but accepts the will of the majority. One side or the other was going to have to be crushed in a ruinous war, and one was. Let's hope that it never comes to that again.
