Twitter: Trump not exempt from being banned

A Twitter official said Tuesday that President Trump does not have a "blanket exception" from a possible ban by the social media platform.

The company’s legal and policy chief Vijaya Gadde told Politico that while the company has often given Trump an exception for possible policy violations because of the newsworthiness of his tweets, there is “not a blanket exception for the president or anyone else.”

0 The company has come under fire from Trump critics for not punishing the president for specific use of the platform. Trump often uses his account to launch personal attacks on political opponents, criticize the media and, on occasion, announce major policy or personnel decisions.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey told Politico that his team considers “context” and “public interest” when evaluating tweets from Trump and others, echoing his past explanation for why the company has not punished the president.

"We have to balance it with the context that it’s in," he said. "So my role is to ask questions and make sure we’re being impartial, and we’re upholding consistently our terms of service, including public interest."

Twitter has defended its decision to not delete some of Trump’s tweets in the past, saying that the tweets are newsworthy. Last year, Trump used his Twitter to threaten North Korea, which some speculated could be considered a declaration of war and a violation of Twitter’s policy.

The company said in January that blocking world leaders from Twitter would “hide important information people should be able to see and debate.”

Dorsey is set to testify to two congressional committees this week amid a number of controversies over how the company handles political content.

Conservatives, including Trump, have accused the platform of, among other things, intentionally “shadow-banning” conservative voices. The company has acknowledged a glitch that muted some conservatives in search results, but said it also impacted some progressives and is being addressed.

Gab is great.

LOL, if you like being in the dark how the site is supposed to work. I give it two thumbs down.

Millions of people have Twitter accounts only so they can follow the President.

If Twitter bans him and he moves to another platform then so will they.

You are so right. I admire the president for posting his thoughts and feelings to the public. From time to time I go to Twitter to read what he says, and I cannot believe the vitriol directed at th president. I post supportive comments of President Trump, but I am way in the minority. I think the negative comments come from guys living in their parents’ basement, scarfing down an ordered pizza.

They have no idea how fortunate they are.

My son went to Costa Rica and China and saw how most of the people in the rest of the world live. After his trip to Costa, he came home with bruises and scratches all over his legs, from cutting down sugar cane.

Wouldn’t that be nice?

Beware, be aware... Trump is a street fighter and will come out on top. The rest of the world has apparently learned that; when will Silicon Valley?

What do you propose as an alternative to Twitter?

Vijaya Gadde - Fortune

Indian-born Gadde has proved vital to Twitter’s efforts at international expansion. ... When the Turkish government blocked Twitter last March, Gadde and her 90-person legal team filed lawsuits in local courts, eventually prevailing. ... A graduate of Cornell undergrad...

Cornell? Nuf said. 5 will get you ten she’s Marxist.

It is utterly crucial that Twitter ban President Trump. They will become incredibly successful, well-loved by all people, and there is absolutely no way President Trump will be able to choose an alternative platform.

In fact, I assert that within 24 hours of Twitter banning Trump, that he will be forced to abdicate his office.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO THIS

If you ban the President during the run up to the 2018 election, that IS collusion and/or interference in the Election. And the President would be fully justified in bringing down the administrative branch against them.

Twitter doesn’t realize it but they could be “investigated” for “whatever” based on some “dossier” from a Twitter user in Macedonia.

Wouldn’t that be a hoot!

If they are investigated for federal crimes, their “Twit” would become a stepped on “Squawk”. It like that sound.

I hope Twitter bans Trump. It will give birth to a whole new social media platform: It can be called “ EXCALIBUR.”

Mastadon is an interesting alternative.
https://www.wired.com/2017/04/like-twitter-hate-trolls-try-mastodon/

Might be interesting if Trump moved to a twitter competitor and brought tens of millions with him. I think the timing might be right..

Same for Facebook. I’ve hear TheMaven.net might provide an alternative.

Sounds like the government should buy all those dem controlled social media platforms and then sell them to the Trump family for a dollar.

Yeah, but Twatter won’t block Trump, or else their stock would wind up in the toilet.

BTW, I wonder when Twatter will ban me for openly hoping that Vladimir Putin winds up face down in a watery ditch?

What do you propose as an alternative to Twitter?

I don't have one. I'm just commenting that Gab isn't user friendly.
