Shares of Nike Inc fell 3 percent on Tuesday as calls for a boycott of the sportswear giant gained traction on social media following its choice of Colin Kaepernick as a face for the 30th anniversary of its "Just Do It" slogan.

Former San Francisco quarterback Kaepernick, the first NFL player to kneel during the national anthem as a protest against racism, posted a black-and-white close-up of himself on Instagram on Monday featuring the Nike logo and "Just do it" slogan, along with the quote: "Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything."

Over 30,000 people were tweeting with the hashtag #NikeBoycott on Tuesday morning U.S. eastern time, making it among the top trending topics on Twitter.

Won’t this hurt Kaepernick’s collusion claim? Nike is showing what would happen to any NFL team that hired him.

What’s interesting to me, is that the press will see this as some sort of organized boycott that the left always enacts against things they don’t like. However, this one will be “organic” in that patriotic Americans will just stop buying stuff with the “Swosh” attached.

No one will be needed to “lead” the boycott, anymore than President Trump is “leading” conservatives. Conservatives make decisions on their own. Certainly, they will independently decided to buy products other than Nike. The harder Nike pushes this particular advertising campaign, the larger their loses will be.

Kapernick could fix all of this in one day

Go on national TV and say “I was being stupid, and I should never have brought politics onto the game field”

But I get the feeling he is one of THOSE... you know they type, no one is going to tell them anything (that they don’t already think they know)

Really shaking my head here...

This is going to replace "New Coke" as a case study in bad business decisions.

“What the hell is Nike thinking”

They have a problem today: Font page news today is showing Nike executives are being sued for sexual assault.

It may. The thing is, Nike is already such a dominant player, they could recover the way J&J recovered after the Tylenol scare - which is now, still a trusted brand in their portfolio.

This was just completely unnecessary. What demographic were they trying to pull in by embracing him that they didn’t already have?

Makes no sense.

Move over, “New Coke” there’s a new standard for marketing suicide.

...

As a company, Coke actually did pretty well after that.

The one crime in the entire Universe that is always punished - stupidity.

No appeal, no mercy, and no coming back from it.

Some 95% of the woe in this world is self-induced.

Last I heard, this Front Hole Kapernick was being willingly led around by the nose by his SJW girlfriend.

He was a crappy quarterback once teams figured out his weakness (He cannot read a defense) and once they did that, his days were numbered.

All he has left to play is the race card. If he played the stupidity card (falling prey to the leftist clap-trap whispered in his ear by those who want to exploit him) and owned up to being wrong, he might get a chance to pay, SOMEONE might, just might take a chance on him as a second string quarterback in the right offense.

But as a locker room cancer...nope. Nobody in their right mind will bring that into the locker room.

Nike thinks being a huge corporation they could "weather" this public relations storm. They need to ask Target Corporation, who took a HUGE financial hit because of their ill-advised bathroom policy trying to please the LBGT crowd.

Nike is not stupid. They know their customer base and just who has the disposition to spend $200 on canvas and rubber footware. Its not Trump supporters. However over the long term, this nonsense will hurt them.

LOL, I am going to do a Photoshop tonight with Kapernick holding up a sneaker, mimicking those stupid "One wierd trick" clickbait things, and it will say "One weird trick to cut revenues in half"!

Something like this:

Love it-thanks for the inspiration!
