Trump's rollback of pollution rules to hit coal country hard
AP ^ | 9-3-2018 | AP Science Writer Seth Borenstein

It's coal people like miner Steve Knotts, 62, who make West Virginia Trump Country.

So it was no surprise that President Donald Trump picked the state to announce his plan rolling back Obama-era pollution controls on coal-fired power plants.

Trump left one thing out of his remarks, though: northern West Virginia coal country will be ground zero for increased deaths and illnesses from the rollback on regulation of harmful emission from the nation's coal power plants.

An analysis done by his own Environmental Protection Agency concludes that the plan would lead to a greater number of people here dying prematurely, and suffering health problems that they otherwise would not have, than elsewhere in the country, when compared to health impacts of the Obama plan.

Knotts, a coal miner for 35 years, isn't fazed when he hears that warning, a couple of days after Trump's West Virginia rally. He says the last thing people in coal country want is the government slapping down more controls on coal — and the air here in the remote West Virginia mountains seems fine to him.

Very true, and in some ways natgas is a great alternative. I work in a coal-fires plant that is sited on probably 400 acres, went online in 1978. My company also has a combined cycle plant sited on a city block that produces the same output with no coal whatsoever.
One problem is, how do you store a six month supply of natgas on site if something happens to that pipeline? And, yes, pipelines experience problems. It’s not unusual.

I noticed that too and immediately figured “his own” meant “holdovers from former administrations.”

This is why the anti-power people take power plant photos in winter, as they can pass off cooling tower water vapor as “Pollutants”. It’s WATER VAPOR!

And how many people would die as a consequence of poverty if the rules were kept in place?
Starvation, malnutrition, not taking care early of curable diseases before they do damage, etc. Did they factor that in? of course not..

My Grandfather went into the West (by GOD) Virginia coal mines when he was 14 (before all these stupid rules), they forcibly retired him at 71.
He lived to be 92.

Facts be damned! Every death will be blamed on Trump, whether it’s a coal miner or an office worker.

Too funny Seth...how about we make a deal....you help us get rid of all the illegals, which saves lives, and we will tighten the standards enough to ensure clean air...which is what we just loosened them to instead of keeping them at impossible levels.....;-)
