CORPORATE SUICIDE WATCH, NIKE EDITION
Powerline ^ | September 3,2018 | JOHN HINDERAKER

Posted on 09/03/2018 6:56:30 PM PDT by Hojczyk

Nike has chosen the star of its 30th anniversary #JustDoIt advertising campaign: Colin Kaepernick. At first glance, it seems weird for an athletic shoe company to select as its corporate icon someone who is no longer an athlete, and was never a star. At second glance, it gets weirder:

Nike apparently thinks Kaepernick has sacrificed everything, which tells you something about 21st century corporate America. Kaepernich is a multimillionaire whose “sacrifice” consisted of kneeling during the National Anthem, wearing socks depicting police officers as pigs, and generally denouncing his country. Which has led to a second career as a leftist spokesman. That is not exactly a contender in the annals of Greatest Sacrifice Ever.

Further, Nike’s tag line, “Believe in something,” naturally raises the question: Does it matter what you believe in? Any normal person would say that it does. After all, the worst monsters in human history–Mao, Stalin, Lenin, Nero, Hitler, Amin, bin Laden, Castro–all believed in something. It was just the wrong thing.

ClayTravis This is the dumbest move @nike has ever made in the history of its brand.

I interviewed Travis a week or two ago on the Laura Ingraham radio show, talking about his new book Republicans Buy Sneakers Too: How the Left Is Ruining Sports With Politics. Clay’s book, written by the only person to be banned by both ESPN and CNN, is a useful commentary on the kind of corporate insanity that afflicts companies like Nike.

Maybe they could hire that former CEO wiz kid from JCPenny who thought the world would love them if they promoted the gay agenda everywhere in their stores

Nikes stock can be $2 a share just like Penny's.

#16. At least the Edsel Ford ran fast and didn’t fumble, and could carry about 7 girls plus a driver (I did 8 with a 1957 Chevy 210, four door).

"It figures. Nike is headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon, a suburb of Portland."

Yes. And the corporate mentaility is as liberal as you would expect.

"I knew a person" as they say who had a masters in women's studies who did some contract work for them, then got a very, very generous offer from them in a full time salaried position; enough to uproot her husband in the Midwest and haul them both out to the land of "progressives".

Considering the shit working conditions their subcontractors have in SE Asia ...... I guess if the price is high enough? Their corporate double speak is phenomenal.. and this decision will come back to bite them in the butt. I'm waiting to see the piles of Nike shoes being torched in protest of this stupid decision on Farcebook and Twitter.

Nike should no longer be able to receive police protection. Just do it police!

I have never owned a Nike product, and I doubt that I ever will.

Generally speaking, I would prefer to pay for just the product, rather than the product plus additional money to cover endorsements by people I don’t give a rat’s ass about.

Might be the best one so far.

If you can’t quite remember the face, look up Marshall Applewhite and Heaven’s Gate.

If you own a Nike product, just set it on fire.

P.S. Short the stock!

Beaverton, Oregon

You gotta wonder how long it takes before the feminists make that town change its name. :-)

It’s only a suicide watch if their institutional investors care about the bottom line.

Small investors, however, are about to be screwed.

Paging the SEC....

Don’t burn them. Donate any in good condition to the Salvation Army. FWIW, I think the sight of them filling the shelves at the SA’s charity shops will do more harm to the brand.

These marketing people had to have done some research from their customers. Clearly we are not in their demographic.

I’ve always found their clothes made for skinny little soccer player bodies. Their shoes are too narrow. Their shirts are made for people with 42 in chests and 29 inch waists. Clearly, I am not in their physical demographic.

I have no problem not buying something I haven’t bought.

It is a shame that they’ve gone from representing excellence in athletic performance, to pop culture. This will ultimately hurt them. They will alienate a great chunk of their customer base by picking a political figure AND a shitty QB.
