It looks like a total loss from the photos, a tragic loss of history.

Further proof that Brazil is the country of the future, and always will be.

That is really sad. OTOH - it said Natural History. Around here we have really cool ones, and they are my favorite over the cultural museums that hold the artwork and stuff. But - I’d rather have my favorite museum of dinosaur bones and stuffed animals burn than the one with all of the artwork.

Hard to believe that they didn't have automatic sprinkler systems to stop this sort of thing.

Pitch for a detective novel:

A fireman sets the fire. All that stands between him and being a millionaire is to be assured, in one way or another, exactly what floor of priceless museum valuables he will be assigned to — whilst all electricity is turned off, and all other theft-protection barriers are in flames.

I’m going with arson until it is determined otherwise.

If the slavery exhibit burned does that mean slavery never existed?

So sad. Will wait to hear more about sprinkler systems, etc. before thinking about who might have benefited by this fire. Could you grab one or two or even 10 items in the turmoil and sell them on the black market to someone who doesn’t care about the loss of the rest?

Arson to cover up a burglary.

For a reference, how would you say this museum compares to, say The Prado, in Madrid?
