If you wont play my way, Im going to take my ball and go home!
One expects such behavior from 7-year-olds. Not from grownups.
But thats the behavior of 60 scientists, journalists, politicians, activists, and others who signed an open letter published in the (dependably sympathetic) Guardian Sunday saying, we will no longer debate those who deny that human-caused climate change is real.
Why didnt they just come right out and say, Nya-nya-nya-nya-nya!
But they offer some reasons, or at least excuses, for taking their ball and going home. Lets consider them.
We are no longer willing to lend our credibility to debates over whether or not climate change is real. It is real.
Yes, climate change is real. I agree.

These are the actions of people who are in a groupthink situation who use censorship to prevent discussion and any challenges to their theories. This is not science.
This is another huge advantage of having Trump as President. Imagine the stupid executive orders and laws being passed to hogtie America with enviro-Nazi rules if Hillary was (shudder) President. Including being part of the America rip-off known as the Paris Accords.
Thank you, Mr. President!
Won’t defend global warming? Nothing new, they’re implicitly admitting it’s indefensible.
I used that line with my SIL who was insisting that anthropomorphic climate change was settle science.
It stopped the discussion dead in its tracks.
Not to mention the nazis were YUGE enviro advocates. Even if it took bombing folks back to the stone age. Or living like most moose limbs.
As a scientist, nothing annoys me more than “Settled Science”.
Agreed. Aka “consensus”...
Good!
I think they just created a list of 60 scientists, their teams and departments than can have all Federal funding instantly removed.
Easy to justify - No debate = No scientific method.
What you don't have you can't lend.
Yup. No further research required. The bucks stop NOW.
Instead of anthropomorphic, I think you meant anthropogenic.
Oops. Right.
I like to refer to them as “Climate Scientologists”. It usually goes right over their heads or it clicks after a minute or two but, by then, the conversation has moved on. ; )
Genius!
That’s a good read. First manmade global warming is supported by basic physics. The amounts are in question and the author gives some evidence of exaggeration of the amount of warming. The alarmists use the phrase “human-triggered climate change” which the author points out is a straw man. It allows the alarmists to conflate natural changes and ordinary weather with whatever “climate” effects that a small amount of global warming has (very little and mainly beneficial).
Sounds like they need to grasp the two metal corrective devices used to keep scientologists in line. Not tom cruise or vinny barbarino of course.
