Why In The Name Of God Is The Media Protecting Pope Francis?
Newsweek ^ | 8/31/18 | Ben Shapiro

Posted on 09/01/2018 1:36:54 PM PDT by Mrs. Don-o

In 2003, The Boston Globe won a Pulitzer Prize for reporting on a massive sex abuse cover-up inside the Catholic Church...

In 2018, Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, former Vatican ambassador to the US, released an 11-page memo alleging that Pope Francis and other top members of the Vatican had reinstated Cardinal Theodore McCarrick to a public position despite credible allegations of sexual abuse of seminarians and minors. The memo rocked the Catholic Church; Pope Francis refused to comment...

So, did the press leap to investigate Vigano’s claims? ...Of course not.

Instead, mainstream media outlets went out of their way to portray Vigano as a disgruntled conservative angry at Pope Francis’ progressivism. The New York Times headlined, “Francis Takes High Road As Conservatives Pounce, Taking Criticisms Public.”

... The problem of child molestation and sexual abuse of clergy took a back seat to Francis’ leftist politics: “Since the start of his papacy, Francis has infuriated Catholic traditionalists as he tries to nurture a more welcoming church and shift it away from culture war issues, whether abortion or homosexuality. ‘Who am I to judge?’ the pope famously said, when asked about gay priests. Just how angry his political and doctrinal enemies are became clear this weekend…”

On Thursday, Reuters doubled down with this headline: “Conservative media move to front line of battle to undermine Pope Francis.” The Telegraph (U.K.) reported, “Vatican analysts say the attack appears to be part of a concerted effort by conservatives to oust Pope Francis, who they dislike for his relatively liberal views…”

... Why aren’t the press asking the pope tough questions, instead of focusing on the supposed motivations of the whistleblowers?

...It’s not out of goodwill for the Church generally. It’s out of a belief that traditionalist doctrine must be rooted out at any cost.

Italians have different dialects throughout the many regions of Italy. I know this because my husband is Sicilian and I have learned to pronounce things in the Sicilian manner (which is looked down upon by most Italians). Don’t sweat it.

Big Media are protecting “Francis”, because Big Media promote sodomy.

why would we be surprised that the media would cover up? From everything we learn from the media that would be their most natural move.

Rarely does anything shock anymore — the same actors, the same narrative, the same maneuvers — and if it’s not this scandal then it would be something else. You read the headlines, it could be 10 years ago because nothing has changed. Maybe more intense today, but fundamentally the same.

I’m still hopeful. “Dog bites man” is not news — “Man bites dog” is. I’m waiting to be surprised by a new development. If this Pope started to sell off Vatican art and gave the money to the poor, if he sold all the land holdings of the Vatican and gave the money to the homeless, if he actually resigned because of this scandal... that would be NEWS. But I don’t expect any of this will happen.

Newsweek, it’s improved. That’s a miracle right there. Thanks for posting this, it’s a much needed piece.

Well, you could consider being against child sexual abuse and predatory sexual behavior as the conservative position. It comports with church doctrine for nearly 2000 years.

The Fake News Media supports The Fake Pope.

It is long past time to fire Francis.

It is long past time to bring back The Real Pope, Benedict, so he can do the work that he is meant to do.

You said it all - he's part of the final destruction of the Church which hasn't done itself a lot of favors with the decades long sweeping under the rug of abuse cases/charges.

Like all large entities, it has become a political animal in its own right and Francis is a sure sign of it. A "Real Catholic Pope" would be hard pressed to put things back together again - would be akin to a president Trump and be taking flak from all sides 24/7/365...as he tried to drain that swamp.

Right on the swamp analogy.

I say Vigano for Pope. Come to think of it, he IS the one who has actually distinguished himself as being man enough for the job.

"For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light."
Luke 8:17

Don't draw Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict into your net of condemnation. Faults I'm sure they had, but they were Catholic. They stood for God's Truth, Catholic faith and morals. I sure wish we had either one of them back again, and in his prime.

A friend posted this on a different forum, and gave me permission to reprint it here. I think it will interest you:

Even though I am not Catholic, I have worked with Catholics extensively over the last 35 years in the pro-life movement. I have known thousands of priests, and every one of them was a good, faithful, God fearing man!!!!!!! Their faith and belief in fighting for life really inspired me. And I can say without hesitation that I would have allowed any of them to babysit my children!!!!!

The fact that EVERY priest is looked at suspiciously is the work of Satan and will do the greatest damage to Christianity. And don´t think Satan, and his LIE-beral minions (especially in the MSM) will not find a way to put that suspicion on every member of the clergy or preacher in every Christian church!!!!

The goal here isn´t just to destroy the Catholic Church -- with the full help and support of the homosexual clerics in the Church -- but it is to destroy all of Christianity!!!!!

Please keep in mind not to attack the innocent with the guilty.

“he wants to impress that he is ‘worldly’ and bringing the Church to modernity. The problem is that, in my opinion, he is blind to the truth about what ‘progress’ actually is, and his view of modernity is very flawed.”

Pope St. Pius X said of Modernism in the encyclical Pascendi “can anybody . . . be surprised that We should define it as the synthesis of all heresies?” He identified Modernism as the most dangerous threat to the Catholic Church, in part because, even as far back as 1907 (when the encyclical was written), Modernists “[belonged] to the Catholic laity, and, what is much more sad, to the ranks of the priesthood itself.”

I finished my letter to the Bishop as such:
I ask that you be our Agent for Change - provide your flock with the roadmap and effect a USCCB response to the Vatican that is unequivocal in its condemnation and earth-shattering in its expectations. Again, please provide your flock with your opinion of Archbishop Vigano’s letter.

Though Bishop Foys is 73yo and not in good health, he is an excellent Shepard of his flock.
