Authorities across Thurston County continue the search for those responsible for the brutal killings of 13 cats in the area.
The Thurston County Sheriff's Office confirmed a 13th cat was found mutilated Thursday just outside Lacey.
On Monday, Olympia police found the 12th cat when they responded to the 3800 block of Pacific Avenue when people nearby reported finding a cat brutally murdered. The death is believed to be linked to 11 other cat killings.
The reward for information leading to the person responsible has increased to $36,000.
Animal cruelty investigator Erika Johnson said cats that have been brutally killed and mutilated have been found on display in public spaces, such as parks or front yards.
As far as the numbers, its probably the worst Ive seen in my career, said Johnson.
Johnson first saw a cat killed in such a way in October, recently, however, theres been an uptick in dead cats found in the area.

Yeah. For sure coyotes will take cats.
LOL! I forgot about Alf.
whoever it is is a sick f*ck
Every homosexual couple I’ve known has been obsessed with their dogs. Big dogs, too, and not the yappy little ones. I never understood that.
When I read the story, I thought the perp might be a predator, perhaps a bird of prey.
Raccoons may look cute, but they are clever, vicious and nasty.
They come mostly at night. Mostly.
We really did have a local Chinese joint busted for serving cat-fried rice.
You must be right. I cant read the article (too horrible). I hope they find him ASAP.
I suspect reindeer.
Cats think they own the night.
There’s a killer on the loose.
Chupacatra?
Ah. A raptor of some sort!
If you have cats, you should never ever let them go outside. Between cars, dogs, coyotes, raccoons, owls, hawks and evil humans, they will eventually die violent deaths.
Saw a coyote walking across the street at dawn in Seattle, a HUGE cat in it’s mouth. Had to laugh, thinking how that cat must have thought IT was at the top of the food chain. I doubt a coyote leaves much a cat behind though.
You are assuming its a person doing this, when others have clearly brought up several other non-human possibilities that it could also be.
But I really do not believe that there will be any sort of remnant cat parts left if it was coyotes. Coyotes killed a neighbor’s three chickens one night, there were many feathers left, nothing else.
“Modern societys anthropomorphizing of animals must be reversed. It is taking us in a very dangerous and immoral direction. “
Spot on. They’ll probably give this guy 30 years for killing cats while the courts let illegal aliens that kill people off with a warning. https://www.oregonlive.com/forest-grove/index.ssf/2017/05/driver_who_ran_over_girls_play.html
Seriously.
About 25 years ago, one Summer on an island, I read in the local "paper" a personal ad. "Cat Missing? Call Moose."
A Summer resident explained that Moose moved to the island, and eventually cats started disappearing.
He didn't make the ferry one day, and spent the night on the mainland in a motel.
A chambermaid found the motel's cat skinned in the room the next AM.
The island residents encouraged Moose to resume his wanderlust.
