‘But a dumb statement like he made’

abba dabba dabba dabba abba dabba dabba would’ve made the point more succinctly...worked for Debbie Reynolds...

I just hope no one apologizes for normal language. It was kind of okay when racists owned one word, "the n word" rather than let it evolve. I remember once being told (about ten years ago) I can't say "they're playing that teacher" because it's a black term! I of course ignored the Word Police.

Controlling speech controls independent thinking. It was wrong when panderers among those who pretend to represent us accepted not using "thug". DeSantis should stand his ground, and I'm not monkeying around. <^..^>

DeSantis didn't think he was talking about Gillem, he was talking generally about the Democrat party's move left to embrace socialism and how it would undo all the things that Republicans have built up in Florida over the years.

Here's a hypothetical: Suppose a candidate talks to a reporter and says something like: "It's time to restore civility and respectful demeanor in our politics, and abandon this rush to bitch and moan about every little thing." Now suppose that he's running against a woman, and the MSM puts out a story that our candidate called his opponent a "bitch."

That's what happened here. No amount of policing one's words can help when we have a media that is willing to twist any context to fit their agenda.

Excellent! Push back while giving your opponent back-handed compliments.

You are learning, Grasshopper.

I am SO with Trump on this one! When I say “monkey” I mean “monkey.” To assume I am speaking of a black person is the height of racism.

Okay, so they have "an answer" to everything. They redefine everything, notably words, to suit whatever is advantageous to them: that's newspeak. Orwell had these people pegged long ago.

The bottom line is that they are racists and obsessed with race, and they will see race and racism everywhere. Nothing--no word--no figure of speech--is invulnerable. Oops! They'll find race and racism in the word invulnerable--somehow--as you say, it doesn't have to make sense.

When I read whatsisname's remark about monkeying around, a racial innuendo did not even enter my mind, but then, I'm not a racist. It was only when I read about the racists outrage that it dawned on me. Race is the first thing that would occur to the racists. I immediately saw it for what it was: racists reading race and racism into everything because they are racists--and using it for their propaganda.

Propaganda is so boring! So is racism!

Can you say “race is the 800 pound Gorilla in the room” and not be deemed racist?

He should just say he thought it was more civil than saying the F-bomb.

This is precisely how the left is dividing this country over race. This story is a perfect example.

So your point is the media will be fair and cite these examples thus exonerating DeSantis?

If you hand the media a hammer to hit you why are you surprised when you are hit?

DeSantis, don’t back down. He didn’t equate monkeys with blacks,

Right. It was Steele who thinks the word monkey refers to blacks. What a moron.

“If you hear the word “monkey” and the first thing that comes to your mind is “black” then you are the racist.”

Excellent point considering Obama even used the term. I never heard the term whack-a-mole until a particular ex-POTUS used it. And a Phrase that I most despise, because of this particular ex-POTUS, is “let’s be clear” probably because this particular ex-POTUS was avaricious, and cautiously avoided profusion with cautious parsimony. Or perhaps just the slang to come out from those descriptions.

Would do my Hart good to uncover some sort of past Democrat Monkey Business that would showcase their current hypocrisy.
Might be tastier than a boatload of Rice!

and the media will “monkey see monkey do!”

I witnessed the Governor George Allen political self immolation over the word “Macaca”.

I don’t think this will hurt DeSantis much as long as he doesn’t keep verbally digging. His margin of error is much much larger then Allen’s was. Remember Allen was in a state starting to tilt blue and was running against a pseudo-conservative Webb. No room for error there.

I I’m surprised the online company called SurveyMonkey hasn’t been forced to change its racist name. And why Al and Jessie haven’t shaked them down for a nice sum of money. It just be owned by liberal elitist.
