Gillum ties DeSantis 'monkey' comment to Trump rhetoric (It Begins)
The Hill ^ | 08/29/18 | Aris Folley

Democratic gubernatorial opponent Andrew Gillum on Wednesday tied controversial remarks made by his opponent Rep. Ron DeSantis (R) to President Trump's rhetoric while appearing on Fox News.

DeSantis earlier in the day in his own Fox News appearance warned Florida voters not to "monkey this up" by voting for Gillum, a comment that prompted fierce backlash.

During an interview with Fox News host Shep Smith, Gillum said DeSantis was taking a page “directly from the campaign manual of Donald Trump.”

“Yeah, that part wasn’t lost on me," Gillum said to Smith when asked about the remarks. "It’s very clear that Mr. DeSantis is taking a page directly from the campaign manual of Donald Trump. But I think he’s got another thing coming to him.”

“He thinks that in today’s day and age Florida’s voters are going to respond to that level of derision and division,” he continued. “They’re sick of it.”

"In the handbook of Donald Trump they no longer do whistle calls, they’re now using full bullhorns," Gillum continued when pressed by Smith whether he believed the congressman's remarks were racist or just a figure of speech.

"And what I’ve got to say about that is we got to make sure we stay focused, I think, on the issues that confront everyday people. I’m not going to get down in the gutter with DeSantis and Trump," he added.

DeSantis, who won the GOP primary Tuesday night, drew considerable pushback for the remarks that were perceived by many as racially charged.

In the interview, DeSantis initially referred to Gillum as "an articulate spokesman for those far-left views" and a "charismatic candidate" after Gillum's stunning Democratic primary victory Tuesday.

But he later launched into an attack on Gillum, a candidate backed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), accusing him of embracing a "socialist agenda."

“Let’s build off the success we’ve had on Gov. Scott. The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases bankrupting the state. That is not going to work," DeSantis said.

The Republican’s campaign said in a statement obtained by The Hill that it was "absurd" to claim that he was doing anything other than criticizing Gillum's agenda.

“Ron DeSantis was obviously talking about Florida not making the wrong decision to embrace the socialist policies that Andrew Gillum espouses,” DeSantis communications director Stephen Lawson said in the statement.

“To characterize it as anything else is absurd,” Lawson added. “Florida’s economy has been on the move for the last eight years and the last thing we need is a far-left democrat trying to stop our success.”

Trump, who endorsed DeSantis in the GOP primary, said later on Wednesday that he had "not heard” DeSantis’s controversial remarks about his opponent but said the congressman is "extraordinary."

Thanks for sharing that song. It was interesting. (In an effort to understand the lyrics better, I looked it up, and found -- FWIW -- this Wikipedia article, which states that "Gabriel himself has described 'Shock the Monkey' as 'a love song' that examines how jealousy can release one's basic instincts; the monkey is not a literal monkey, but a metaphor for one's feelings of jealousy".

Obviously, he's a racist too!       :-)

“why does the word “monkey” make liberals think “black.”

Because they’re racists, especiailly that idiot who’s running against DeSantis.
The SOB knows full well DeSantis did use a racial term but still wants to beat it ti death, He’s a lowlife POS without one bit of character or common decency. Al Sharpton Jr, aka a race-baiter who’ll DeSantis will beat by
20 points in the general election.

What a bunch of macaca! Wanna play games on every single utterance people make?

Gillum: “they’re now using full bullhorns”

Bullhorns? Really? What a sexist comment by Gillum.

Exactly
Shows what they have on their mind. Now who's the racist?

The macaca thing worked because the guy said you’re a macaca. It is almost certainly not a racial remark because nobody has ever used the word before. It was probably more embarrassing than anything else for him to have said that in a debate. They used the it’s racist as a way to keep the he’s stupid going as long as possible.

Since it’s an FBI investigation, and since he won the Dimocrat primary, my suspicion is they will kick it under the rug as he is now their only anti-Trump weapon. HIS establishment might have even conjured this up to stop him, like they did with Bernie.

“His best bet is to ignore it and campaign like a man instead of a simpering p#$$y.”

That deserves a repeat.

Ignore the racist taunts by the rat racists, and remind everyone that rats have embraced goosestepping socialism. That the rats want high taxes, no freedom of speech and to brainwash your kids with anti-American Marxist heterodoxy.

Interesting— never knew that. What is in the video is rather much different than a metaphor. What i took in was something from conditioned response to shock stimuli from the “science” of psychology— skinner box , shocking box to train a monkey to press the food bar.
Conditioned.. by repeat shock/reward. That seemed to be the theme in the video. As do the lyrics.... “just fell out the trees”, the use of what are Bantu facial decorations done in white “ape” face and then the reverse negative black clothes, etc. The very last the facial tattoo is pasted onto the test monkey. First scene— in a cell/interrogation site, arabic words that translate to “go ahead, shock the monkey”.

Gabriel has been a real political pain in the a@@ in re: South Africa, Hamas and Palestinians, Zimbabwe (of course)— and notably his defense of the proven murderer leftist hero, Ira Einhorn (now on a life sentence, no parole). anything for the cause.

Cannot understand why musicians have to go through the gauntlet of PC leftist bullcrap, and not be appreciated for their music. But of course it’s because— who runs media, who runs big money music.... the Left. With rare exception someone breaks through this.

Any word or phrase can be turned into a “racist” comment at will by the msm.

A very large and growing portion of our population understands that perfectly well.

These fake outrage churns by msm are less and less effective the more they play them.

I doubt anything the msm says about anything is going to have much impact on anyone other than the completely useless and always treacherous concern trolls, crybabies and handwringers of the “moderate” faction.

That faction has also been loosing is power as the situation heats up.

So yeah. Lets all play the msm’s game and let this get us all sad and concerned.

Fox News decided to come out and crucify him earlier this afternoon. Ridiculous. Is it any wonder why Americans hate politics.

Not great. I saw it live and was like What? Great thing is, it is very early and I don’t believe for a second that this is his maccaca moment. It won’t work in Florida. I think DeSantis will win Governorship mostly thanks to Scott though.

I like your explanation of the lyrics. Maybe you should update that Wikipedia page!

I remember that "Unicorn" killer from Philadelphia. He was an "Earth Day" nut. He went to the same school as Trump (the University of Pennsylvania), but the commonalities end there with just that one!
