See, here we differ. For instance, the core of progressivism is no longer confined to NE of Mason-Dixon even to the extent that it ever was ... indeed the looniest strongholds are now out West ... so making it about that seems to serve no function. Likewise carpet bagging as known from after tWBtS is itself a newer thing than there being Damn Yankees.
I’m not sure exactly when Damn Yankee became a subtype. It seems to me to have likely originally been used of big city Yankees in an arc from Boston to Philadelphia, with its heart firmly in money grubbing New York City, then expanded quickly to include more of lower New England, of Pennsylvania, and of New Jersey as industrialization progressed.
At the time I was a little on the young side to be him.

If it has Giles, it’s something else.
Fripper?
At the very end of the video, the worker with the pickax was really wailing away beside the sarcophagus. I would think they’d be more careful. Big sarcophagus though.
It is appointed once for a man to die and after that is judgment.
So, nope, don’t need no past lives gunk.
“you can’t take it with you..”
Thus ends another gag-laden subtopic that almost make FR bearable.
Actually, from what I can tell the fruits of obedience to the Holy Spirit (the rewards for the works that can pass through the fire) we can take.
But here I need to point out that what Paul called the body of death apparently is perfectly willing to ape the activities and the fruit of the Spirit if that means we are still obeying it as very moral people rather that obeying the Holy Spirit. There’s an old story about a young preacher to illustrate this: a young visiting preacher got up before a congregation and preached his heart out ... but despite his expectations the invitation went unheeded and people just sort of were polite but not too friendly after services. Concerned he turned to an old country preacher who was also visiting to ask what he’d done wrong. The old guy nodded thoughtfully before saying: “Let me ask you, son, were you sent or did you just went?”
How many people go in their own strength and their own wisdom rather than from obedience? These, I’m persuaded, are the works that cannot endure even though the people themselves will be saved because of Grace.
Help a fellow out here: describe the gag so I won’t be such a Jungderhead next time.
Thanks for the ping/post; video link.
Interesting (post & thread)
Actually, per family lore that phrase started shortly after the War Between the States:0)
Are you sure that is the same excavation in the article?
