In the hysteria about 3D printed guns, the words unlicensed and untraceable are thrown about promiscuously and irresponsibly. They are used to imply disaster is upon us, that some new scary threshold has been breached.
They are scare tactics based on ignorance. Most of the 400 million plus firearms in the United States are unlicensed (unregistered) and untraceable. It has been that way for decades, hundreds of years. It has not made a significant difference in the crime rate. It will not make a significant difference in the future. Separate from gun licensing, there are background checks at retail purchase for most guns in the United States. Only a few states require background checks on private sales of guns. Background checks do not make a difference.
Unlicensed and untraceable is scary only if you think most guns are licensed (registered) and that traceability has anything to do with preventing crime.
National registration of guns has been illegal for decades. Only a few authoritarian states require registration of firearms. Those states are California, Hawaii, Maryland, and New York. The registration schemes in Hawaii and California apply to all guns. The requirements for registration of long guns are fairly recent. Most guns that were unregistered before registration was required remain unregistered, and are grandfathered in. New York required registration of handguns only. Recently they required registration of some semi-automatic rifles. The law has been ignored by over 80% of the people affected.

10 Years Free...
Well, I can’t argue that.
Monkey Gun,,,?
How about that Whammo “AirBlaster?”
IIRC.
I have a vat...you might like.
Sounds like good news to me.
They shouldn’t require a license and shouldn’t be traceable.
Imagine a Picture of Rosanne Barr holding a Monkey Gun.
"That" being, "Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed".
Yes, the government is involved inasmuch as our founders laid the groundwork. And among that groundwork were limits placed on that government as enumerated in the Bill of Rights.
Oh wouldn’t that be just sublime.
Do you know if somebody who moves into California must declare his firearms collection?
= = =
There are signs to do so, in our DMV, for incoming folks when they register their cars in CA, and ...
From our fuzzy, lovable AG:
Firearms Information for New California Residents
Home Firearms Regulations Firearms Information for New California Residents

That will be the day I “license” my firearm!!!! I an a resident of Arizona.
True on all points.
We think of these things as creeping incrementalism, but they are actually a series of milestones that change the course of our Country’s future.
Once the Populace gets “comfortable” after these milestones occur, it’s time for the next plateau to be reached.
Just wait until they turn those CA “Agricultural Inspection Stations into Motor Vehicle Illicit Arms Search Stations.

“So, registration is voluntary! BUT (and it’s a big but) to legally purchase a firearm in NJ you must apply for and be issued a permit to purchase. If that ain’t registration, what is? “
Take it from me, a (thankfully) ex-resident of that dark and fascist state, that’s the law. Note that I left with about 200 years (in Rahway State Prison) worth of normal capacity magazines nearly 20 years ago...and I have only gone back for occasional visits every few years. I miss some aspects of NJ, but not one thing having to do with firearms.
We’ve been “Had!”
“The government employees and politicians, their children even their pets are all targets for being tortured to death.”
Eh? What in the world would make you think that we normals are going to torture children.
I imagine those rounds would easily have penetrated the storage tanks in Las Vegas.
Hunting license information is somewhat revealing.
In bloody civil wars, it only takes a small percentage on each side to commit numerous atrocities. After one side starts, it escalates.
I shows America's resilience that there has been no escalation after the baseball park shooting.
