By late November, our trees are pretty naked. The black jack oaks hang on to their leaves through winter but they’re brown. At least there are a lot of cedars and pines so there’s green to be seen throughout winter. It helps a little.

Winter here gets pretty bleak. It’s ugly to begin with, and what trees that have survived ice, drought and high winds through the past few years look even worse in the winter. Not many pines or other evergreens...no hills. Even the cactus loses color in the winter. Ugh.
