Pope 'begs for God's forgiveness' for sexual abuse scandal

Dublin (AFP) - Pope Francis "begged for God's forgiveness" on Sunday for multiple abuse scandals within the Irish church but faced accusations by a former Vatican official that he had personally ignored allegations against senior clergy.

In front of 45,000 supporters at the rain-soaked Knock shrine in the west of Ireland, the pope sought forgiveness over the "open wound" of the church's sexual abuse scandal and demanded "firm and decisive" measures to find "truth and justice".

At a later Mass to tens of thousands of flag-waving worshippers at Dublin's Phoenix Park, the showpiece event of the two-day visit to the former Catholic stronghold, he also confessed to other abuses by the Irish church, including at its so-called "mother and baby" homes.

But in the city centre around 5,000 abuse victims and their supporters braved the weather to attend the "Stand for Truth" rally.

He is more like the anti Pope.

The cleansing needs to start at the very top.

54% of Catholics voted for Trump?

That's better than the general public! Woo Hoo!

Ummmm that's what we have police, courts and jails for.

The Pope's concern is suppose to be spiritual and here's a flash for Pope Francis

It's just as easy to forgive a rapist priest while he serves his term in prison as it is to 'forgive' him while he's sitting in a rent-free rectory with close access to children.

STOP doing Caesar's work and do YOUR OWN JOB Pope Francis - let the law deal with the criminal rapists... YOU forgive them or not while they're serving their term in prison.

“The son of a bitch ought to praying a mob doesn’t come over the Vatican walls with torches and pitch forks.”

If secular authorities do not take decisive actions soon, that is EXACTLY what will happen.

Because nobody on earth thinks the church is capable of cleaning this up on their own.

I wonder how many children he’s raped

………………………………………………………………………………………..

That’s harsh. Have there been any accusations?

Well, he obviously likes to encourage child raping, so I thought it was a safe assumption.

Pope Francis himself, when he published Amoris Laetitia, admitted he might go down in history as the Pope who split the Church.

When the Church
Hits a rock
And the rock
Split the flock
That's Amoris...

I think the Holy Spirit might be bringing him down at this point in order to prevent him from actually and officially enacting formal heresy. He keeps speeding up to the cliff and then revving his engines at the very edge.

The only thing that "saves" him is his tactical ambiguity. Those who depend on ambiguity to save their bacon certainly do not manifest an honest mind.

I’ve read the comments on this and other threads about this story which is all over the place to day. It is a sad day when the truth is revealed by an upper level Cardinal who has had enough of the lies and obfuscation in the hierarchy, and courageously exposed the duplicity.

Additionally, I want to point out that for many who are disgusted with the behavior and the crimes against young members in the church, even here, the term pedophilia is still used when discussing the major cause of the abuse. The church does not have a pedophilia problem as hardly ever has there been a case of sexual abuse against small children who are under the age of puberty [the definition of pedophilia]. In no way does this lessen the problem. Abuse against little children or teenagers or even innocent young seminarians is a crime. However, by not using the proper terminology, the church will never be able to face it’s problems and correct them. The problem is the large number of HOMOSEXUALS who have increasingly found refuge, anonymity, and hoped for safety within the clergy.

Today, the secular press is still using the term ‘pedophilia’, and as long as society is unwilling to call it what it is because of political correctness, we will never confront it head on. Our press is two-faced [what’s new about that?], as they love to bash the church, but hide the intrinsic nature so as to shield homosexuals. Do news media folks think that homosexuals are OK, but priests are bad when they abuse ‘children’, when actually these priests are homosexuals who are abusing members of the church, primarily teenage boys?

Being a lifelong Catholic, I have been cautious to criticize Pope Francis, although I have mentioned to friends that I do not care for his pronouncements regarding morality, which seem to gloss over the seriousness of sinful behavior in favor of being more forgiving of the sinners. Because Jesus told us not to judge, and to forgive one another, it works great - BUT that is only half of what Jesus taught. Jesus told us to ‘go and sin no more’; to repent and believe in the gospel, to avoid occasions of sin; to let the little children come to him; to never cause any harm to children, etc..

Cardinal Carlo Maria Vigano had put his heart and soul in to the letter made public today. The demotion of Cardinal Burke [a great man in my opinion] several years ago was a serious signal that all was not well in Rome. Pope Francis is a Jesuit, a religious order that was formerly esteemed among scholars but which has been destroyed by liberalism, so it is not too surprising that he is weak in this area. I do not think he is gay but he is infected with leftism.

The full fallout of this continuing scandal is yet to be seen. In the meantime, the children, teens [mostly boys], young seminarians, etc., are the primary victims. Secondary victims are the majority of good priests who are suffering under the threat of false allegations, finger pointing, etc.; the laity of the Catholic Church, the reputation of all sincere Christians, and the full Body of Christ.

I’ll close with a prayer from the Divine Mercy Chaplet - For the Sake of His Sorrowful Passion, Have Mercy on us and on the Whole World.

This is an important day for me due to your post.
I have been holding back my anger for so long and reading Bible commentaries nearly daily (or 99.9% since 2016). Decades earlier read off and on (70 or 80 books).

Your lines from the Talmud are so important for me to read at this time of crisis with President Trump and his enemies:

Those who are kind to the cruel,
in the end will be cruel to the kind.”

origin is Qohelet Raba 7:16 according to the source I just found. I have read very little of the Talmud, actually.

I have wasted my life being kind and compassionate and gentle, as has President Trump.

He left an easy, sure thing life of a billionaire’s pleasure in order to serve the American people (yes and get his name revered as important in history,I admit). Hateful, spiteful enemies tried to destroy him before his inauguration and ever since. He did no harm to any of them, even LGBT, and certainly not black people. They are trying to destroy him anyway.

I will not waste my life, whatever is left at age 72, being compassionate and gentle.

Thank you for your life changing post.

Thank you for your gracious and thoughtful words.

I do think there is too much sentimental "mercy" these days, a false mercy which is just based on cheap grace and easy-believe-ism. It comes from valuing your precious "feelings" above the difficult requirements of truth and justice.

Gentleness and compassion have a place: gentleness to those who are innocent and easily hurt (little children, the physically frail) and compassionate toward people who are being ill-used and spat on by barbarians.

But it should be given for reality-based reasons. Not just to make ourselves feel that we must be very fine people indeed, finer than all the rest!

He needs to be tarred and feathered, and ridden out of town on a rail...as well as all of his queer child-molester buddies.

Then put the real Pope back in place.

There is only one Man who ever walked the face of this Earth, who deserves unquestioning respect and devotion.

His name is not Donald Trump.

I think historically, celibacy was not a problem when the communities of celibates were heterosexuals with an all-out devotion to a religious calling, an ascetic lifestyle and no-nonsense religious superiors.

"Rule of Benedict" will give you an idea of how that works.

It got shot to hell when heteros moved out and homosexuals stayed.

In the USA, Canada and Europe this happened massively in the 1960's and 1970's, when the heteros were beguiled by the "Sexual Revolution" and decamped to explore relationships and marry their girlfriends --- I think I read some 11,000 priests left the priesthood in the U.S. between 1968 and 1970 --- leaving the homosexuals there to gain a "critical mass" majority.

After that they tended to recruit, recommend, promote, and protect their fellow sexual deviants, turning their temporary majorities into permanent dominance --- not everywhere, but in far too many seminaries, chanceries and the like.

Yes, faggotry has to be rooted out. And it will be ---perhaps following civilizational collapse. This cycle has replayed itself a number of times over our many-century history.

If you read history, you’ll find out that there have been many evil popes over the decades. As a matter of fact, this one is far less evil than a lot of them.
