LEXINGTON-After months of speculation, Gov. Matt Bevin used the 2018 Republican Party of Kentucky Lincoln Dinner to announce he will be running for re-election in 2019.
The first term governor ended his speech to the crowd of 500 with the announcement, drawing cheers.
You bet Im running again. You bet Im running again, he told the crowd. The work that is being done right now in our House and in our work that is being in our Senate is just getting warmed up. Buckle up because the next five years are going to be something to watch.
Bevin cited a need to continue the work he has done as a reason for his decision.
To not continue keeping the foot on the gas would be, frankly, the wrong thing for the state, it would be the wrong thing for all those who had worked so hard, the wrong thing for our existing legislature. he told reporters after the dinner.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he is pleased with Bevins decision to run for re-election.
Thats exciting news for all of us who are proud of what has been in done in Frankfort with the new governor and the new statehouse and state Senate and we are pretty happy about the governors decision and the way he announced it tonight. he said.
Attorney General Andy Beshear is the only confirmed gubernatorial candidate on the Democratic side but Democratic House Leader Rocky Adkins, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, Former Auditor Adam Edelen and Rep. Attica Scott are rumored to be considering a bid. Bevin says hell take anyone.
Bevin wouldnt confirm Jeanne Hampton would his running mate instead saying all campaign announcements will come in the weeks ahead.

Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes - knock your self out sweetheart :)
Andy Brashear (crooked son of the previous crooked governor) will be his opponent.
As sad as it makes me to say this, Matt has done too much right and pissed off powerful groups. The teachers union hates him and they carry a lot of clout. Add to that all the ignorant people here who are incapable of understanding the state’s dire budget problems and catastrophic pension bomb and Matt is doomed. I like him a lot, but he is too honest and realistic to get reelected. I wish I was wrong, but I’m not.
Thanks for the info.
He needs to grind Beshear into dust, and Beshear and Grimes need to be replaced by Republicans. There hasn’t been a GOP AG since the 40’s I believe.
There were no massive protests when the Democrats were funding the pensions at like 50% per year...only now are they upset when we are dealing with the aftermath of the Democrats’ mess.
If you rob Peter to pay Paul, Paul will always vote for you.
I will crawl over broken glass to vote for Matt regardless of the odds. But Andy (the crook) Breshear will be the next governor. And we will pay dearly for that.
