Kelli Ward suggested Saturday that the statement issued Friday by U.S. Sen. John McCain's family about ending treatment for brain cancer was intended to hurt her U.S. Senate campaign.
McCain died Saturday hours after her remarks.
Ward, a conservative former state senator from Lake Havasu City, is in a three-way race for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination in Tuesday's Arizona primary.
Ward wrote on Facebook that "I think they wanted to have a particular narrative that they hope is negative to me."
Her comment was made under a Facebook post by one of her campaign staffers, who questioned if it was "just a coincidence" that the McCain family released the statement the same day that Ward was kicking off her campaign bus tour, "or if it was a plan to take media attention off her campaign?"
"I'm not saying it was on purpose but it's quite interesting," Jonathan Williams wrote.
Aaron Borders, the onetime second-vice chairman of a Maricopa County Republican Party group, took screenshots of Ward's remarks on Saturday and condemned her remark on social media, and in an interview with The Arizona Republic.
"It's wildly inappropriate," said Borders, who is supporting Ward's rival, U.S. Rep. Martha McSally, in the GOP race. "It's classless. It's not decent ... it's very narcissistic. It's a narcissist comment to sit there and think that the McCain family made this decision to interfere with your bus tour."

In all fairness, Kelli did not make this statement; it was made by one of her campaign workers. Yes, she shoukd have better campaign people. Lots of missteps. Too bad because she is smart, sincere, and conservative.
“I suspect he was on life support and they just unplugged him. He died too soon after announcing no further treatment.”
Yes. A ludicrous comment given he died within hours.
Obviously they upped his palliative morphine drip. That’s how it’s done these days.
Yep. It's 'euthanasia' for all intents and purposes.
Among the dumbest mistakes l have ever seen a candidate make. Now we are Stuck with McSally. So we get Flake 2.0. All l can hope is Ducey does not put Cindy in or we get 0 gain from 2 of the worst Rinos leaving the Senate. God seems cruel at times.
If you’re lucky, you’re stuck with McSally, more likely the Rat will get that seat.
“You do not know what the hell you are talking about. This woman is a doctor, she is smart...”
“Wild Cat” is clearly an operative.
I literally had just seen the usual super lib propaganda sent out by the same super left lib social media propagandist people about this before clicking over to FR and seeing it pushed here.
These are concerted efforts by the left.
I like Joe Arpaio, but the only reason anyone would vote for an 86 year old man to fill a Senate vacancy is because they figure he can't hurt 'em badly (forgetting I guess about John McCain). This is a really stupid gaffe by Kelli Ward. Thanks Republican Wildcat.
Yep. He probably has been on life support for at least a couple of weeks. I believe his "death" was timed to influence Tuesday's primary, essentially timing his "death" to do the most damage.
A truly despicable human being.
Can we believe MS. Sanchez and her reporting?

I’m glad I don’t have to hold my nose and vote for this nut job.
this is something you talk about years later if you do a memoir. to do it now is destructive to your campaign.
Yep—our team has to do a better job of finding not just red-meat, but sane red-meat, candidates.
No question.
He was a classless dirtball to the very end.
Yep. Notice how quickly they had his hearse on the road? Cindy and John both are wealthy so funeral home could get the fast. Yet it also had many limos and cop cars in the procession.
Plus the fact he hasn’t been on TV. He was another real media hog.
yep
“Among the dumbest mistakes l have ever seen a candidate make.”
What is?
Not if you watched a family member die this way. Completely plausible. No further treatment can also mean a final morphine overdose.
So, the McCain family, doctors and a brain tumor all got together to conspire to hurt the Ward campaign?
Nothing insane about her statement just classless and bitter.
There is no doubt that McAmnesty was a nasty piece of work and what she is saying is certainly in keeping with that nastiness. However, with one foot on a banana peel and the other in a grave, I don’t think that one goes to meet St. Peter with a last dig at someone.
