I saw this movie and I recommend everyone see it. Just remember though, it is a documentary so do not expect to leave all happy and thrilled like you would an adventure film. Its story is about how horrible leftists continue to try and control everyone.

Exactly. The makers (taxpayers) have been put in thrall to the takers (able-bodied welfare recipients). Rather similar to the plantation owners living off the sweat and labor of the slaves.
This is a question America addressed and answered with the blood several hundred thousand Americans, from both sides, over 150 years ago.

I use to get angry about the red state verses blue state description when Communist red is the better choice for the RATS . After reading D'Souza I realize RAT evil predates commies and Nazi's.The "Civil War" should be called the "Democrat-Republican War" and it should be Blue states verses Grey ones.

The only connection that I can imagine between Nazi Germany and the American left would be the marriage of convenience during the two years of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, and that would only be the Communist Party left. The American fan club of the Nazis was the German American Bund, not exactly a bunch of flaming liberals. Other than in certain ethnic neighborhoods of New York and Chicago the Bund didn’t amount to much.
I wonder if anyone bothers to read William L Shirer’s classic history of Nazi Germany, “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich” anymore. The first two chapters give a decent history of the origins of Nazism, much of it taken from Hitler himself. Somehow Adolph failed to duly credit any American political connections, but what would he know.
Nazism was pretty much sui generis, a point that Dennis Prager also likes to make. It had no connections to the American right or left, other than invented ones that people pretend to find.

I was surprised it kinda cast the left in a poor light and then learned the source material was actually conservative, and set in alternate timeline were the Soviets were winning the Cold War, the film version did not feature that.

Not quite so. The Bund had some large pro-Germany, if not overtly pro-Hitler and Nazi Party rallies across the U.S. in the 1930 and early 40’s.
They were exposed as not only racists, anti-Semites and even somewhat anti-Christian, but also as a propaganda arm of the German Nazi Party with whom the Bundists ha direct ties and communications. Fritz Kuhn, the Bund’s Nazi fanatical leader, who was arrested during WW1 as a German sympathizer and then against during WW2.
The best Government expose’s of the Bund came in hearings and reports of the Special Committee on Un-American Activities (Dies Committee), Executive Hearings Made Public, Volumes 1 - 7, 1939-43 and Appendices I-VIII, 1940 - 1943.
Among those volumes are the following titles that focused on American fascists and the Bund:

What most people don’t know is that the FBI, ONI (Office of Naval Intelligence, US Army Military Intelligence, and AAF Office of Special Investigations, plus the Provost Marshal General of the US, and industrial facilities internal security officials, conducted massive investigations of reports about possible Nazi/Fascist (i.e. Italian) workers who were either told about, watched, or caught committing acts of sabotage in industrials across the country, as well as acting as industrial spies and national facilities spies/saboteurs (aircraft planes, machinery, the docks, chemical and metal producing facilities, armaments plants, and electrical/hydroelectrical damns and plants.
These records are find at the National Archives in College Party in the various Record Groups for the above named Military/Government offices including ONI, FBI, MI, RG 18 -Army Air Force, RG 19 - Bureau of Ships, RG 175, Chemical Warfare Service, RG 178 - U.S. Merchant Marine, and Army Bureau of Ordnance 156, as well as the Inspector General files of RG 159, etc.
Many people with German names were cleared of suspicions of acting as German agents/saboteurs, but hundreds, if not thousands of others were fired because they were Bundist members or had displayed open support for Hitler/Nazis, Mussolini, or were anti-British (often Irish-Americans working on behalf of German - not many, but still were a sabotage threat in industries).
A few Argentinians and Italians were also arrest as Axis spies and potential saboteurs.
By the way, my teacher was the first FBI agent to talk with Daesch, one of the German saboteurs who landed in New Jersey. He turned the call over to his superior who then learned about the other saboteurs who landed as well as another group who landed in Florida.
Most were shot. Daesch and one other served jail time and were then deported to Germany.
One of their targets was the ALCOA and related power transmission lines on the St. Lawrence River (the Messina Plant, which I had as an environmental case many years ago. In one of the guard’s log books, there is his description of him and another guard seeing someone inside the plant’s perimeters and he shot at the figure. However, since it was snowing, they were unable to find anytrace of the person, but it was likely that this could have been another German agent or American Nazi supporter).
Sorry to shoot down your comments about the Bundists not being a major threat to the U.S. Their members were just that as factory workers across American, not just in Chicago and NY, but in Pennsylvania, possibly Wisconsin, Ohio, Maryland, etc.
By the way, I’m a professional historian with a legal specialty in WW2 industrial facilities. I get to see all the good stuff at the Archives about WW2, and some things most others will never see. Luv it!

The Bund had a presence everywhere there were German-American communities in the U.S., plus they were only one part of Germany’s American apparatus, which dated back to World War I. During WWI, the center of the international Marxist movement was in Germany, and German intelligence cultivated links to groups such as the IWW that became the nucleus of the future CP in the U.S., as well as other groups that shared Gemany’s anti-British orientation such as Irish and Indian nationalists. During the leadup to WWII, Germany reactivated its old WWI apparatus in the U.S., with support from additional groups that had emerged in the meantime, such as the Christian Front which dwarfed the Bund in size, the Knights of the White Carmellia, the Silver Shirts, the American National Socialist League, etc. This network organized at least two assassination attempts on FDR that I know of, and had high-level espionage rings on Capitol Hill and in the State Department.

You misinterpreted my point- I wasn’t suggesting that the Bund wasn’t a threat- my intended point was that the Bund didn’t enjoy popular support in America outside of a few German neighborhoods primarily in New York and Chicago. Their rallies weren’t going to draw a lot of Americans, especially among any family with WWI vets.
The Bund, like the few hundred Japanese spies uncovered by MAGIC, would have been a serious threat.

It’s an excellent film. I would have preferred, though, for the ending to have been different. (I’ll FReeomail you my thoughts so as not to post spoilers—the movie is 56 years old, but I’m sure that many here haven’t seen it and would enjoy it.)
I recommend it if you can find it.
I tried to watch it on a pirate site but it’s was some DVD version where some a-hole professor is talking over it!
You can rent it for like 3 bucks on you tube or VUDU.
It’ll probably be on TCM at some point.
Just found out it was on last night ! :-P It’s free on my On Demand service for the next week, so I may watch it later today.
I ordered the DVD (Movie) and just got notified by Amazon that I will not receive it until November 5-6. Obviously this is not really in time for the election.
