Haven’t heard the funeral plans. Wouldn’t be surprised if they stuff him and parade him around from city to city to maximize the PR here.

Your post reminds me of the death of Henry Clay in 1852 from tuberculosis at age 75. The thought was that the American people would want to say goodbye to the Great Compromiser.

His body was sealed in a cast iron coffin with a small glass window near his head with a silver face plate covering the window that could be screwed and unscrewed into place. The coffin was taken by wagon and train around the eastern US. This way, the American people could say goodbye to the man who had staved off the Civil War twice with his compromises over slavery.

Unfortunately, the weather was unseasonably hot, and at one venue, when the silver face plate was unscrewed, it was decided that perhaps the plate should stay in place until his interment in Louisville.
