Former Secretary of State Ken Bennetts much-ridiculed contention that Governor Doug Ducey plans to appoint Cindy McCain to replace her ailing husband in the U.S. Senate suddenly seems tantalizingly prescient.
On Friday morning, Senator John McCains family issued a statement saying that the 81-year-old, six-term senator has chosen to discontinue medical treatment for the rare, deadly form of brain cancer that doctors diagnosed him with more than a year ago.
The statement, tweeted out by Cindy McCain, reads in part that, John has surpassed expectations for his survival, but that, the progress of the disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict.
Coming as it does just a few days shy of the primary election on Tuesday, August 28, the news recalls one of the first promises Bennett made, not long after he announced his intention earlier this year to challenge Ducey for the GOP gubernatorial nomination.

HELL NO!
?
It’s going to be Meghan.
The best scenario is for the loser in the upcoming GOP primary to get appointed to that post.
Agreed. That was the deal from the beginning.
He should appoint the most conservative person he can find and that certainly wouldnt be Cindy. Megan either.
No! This is a republic; we do not have an hereditary aristocracy.
So, so, so very wrong.
Thank you very much.

Ducey is up for re-election and will certainly lose if he chooses either McCain. He’s already in the hot seat for failing to show up at the last Trump rally in Phoenix.
My guess: Andy Biggs
The Senate is NOT the House of Lords and the US does NOT have hereditary titles. Stop this nonsense.
Yes, appointing the daughter would be a terribly gross affront, insult to the people of Arizona. The best qualified ( conservative) person should be selected
The people of AZ are going to be crestfallen without him.
This is the kind of thing that used to happen in banana republics - the wives and children of powerful men inheriting their positions in government. Now it’s a feature of American politics, and a very unwelcome one. What possible qualification does Cindy McCain possess for being a US senator?
About the same qualifications Hellery had when she was coronated.

$$$$$$
” unprecedented “ ?
Neither is crapping on a Police car, but that don’t make it right
I guarantee you Governor Ducey WILL NOT appoint Cindy. As my friend who has warm feelings for the Senator told me, “what makes anyone think she wants it.” Hell, I’d say Meghan McCain before Cindy. But that won’t happen either. Lighten up guys.
If one of McCain's family members feels they're entitled to his Senate seat, let them get it the old-fashioned way ... by getting ELECTED to it.
