I hate the plastic bags myself. When I bagged groceries back in the olden days, there were only brown paper bags. I had grocery bagging down to a science and it was so easy to arrange the contents with the heavy items on the bottom and the more fragile items on top. With those plastic bags, the contents are all over the place. Also, it takes 10 of those plastic bags to bag what would normally fit into just 3 or 4 paper bags.
I used to take those brown paper bags at home and turn them into bookcovers for school books!

Alas..... times change
Plastic is less expensive than paper and for all but the rabid enviroweanies, really make no difference.
The bags are free.

If you want a short term gig you could work giving classes on grocery bagging.
The current crop doesn’t have a clue, they throw stuff in a paper bag the same way they do plastic. I usually bag my own.

Some people won’t believe you. I know you’re right but some folks just won’t agree.
I did the paper bag to book cover too.
School charged a couple of pennies per book cover so I used the old store bags for free.
I’ve been repurposing things my whole life.
