Beto ORourke, the Democrat challenging GOP Sen. Ted Cruz in the midterm elections, is being slammed by Republicans for saying there is nothing more American than kneeling during the national anthem.
Comments like his are a slap in the face to every man and woman who has ever served our nation and put their lives on the line to defend American values, Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey said Thursday.
ORourke, a Democratic congressman, was asked at a recent campaign event about NFL players who kneel during the anthem. ORourke replied, I can think of nothing more American than to peacefully stand up, or take a knee for your rights anytime, anywhere, any place.

Both of my parents were WWII Veterans. . .our family proudly stands. These people living off the backs of the hard working taxpayers in a country that exists by the Grace of God and our defenders of freedom . . . they are nothing more than ingrates.
I can't stand Beto........so hope Cruz comes up with more zingers against that loser.
What a loser Bump!
I’ve said before that Cruz needs to spend more time in TX
I’m not sure O’Rourke has ever been to TX with that comment.
So does America’s Team, The Dallas Cowboys all kneel for the anthem like they should if they American?
Couldn’t agree more, if they don’t like being here just leave.
New definitions, you know. If you “hate” what America now is, because of some real or imagined malfeasance of office by men now long dead, but has since been corrected or made to be a moot point, then you are guilty of attacking a straw man who never was, or has long been demolished.
The concept that is “the United States of America” is not, and never has been, a perfect concept. But do not let the perfect be the enemy of the good, as this entity has within its framework, the means to work at and shore up its failings, the freedom to experiment as to the better and more effective ways to gain that objective, and most important of all, the capability to discard and remove those failed and ineffective policies for the good of all.
Never, in the history of mankind, has the hypothetical stripping of power away from the overreaching and absolute control of an elite few, been so fully expressed. The Declaration of Independence was the mission statement, and the Constitution poses the framework by which this concentration of power is strictly limited by exclusions applied to duly elected officials, doled out sparingly, with the remainder of power reserved to the people or the states respectively.
In God we trust. From men, we demand verification.
That should make any sane voter vote against him.
Is it more strategic to “through the dems off” instead of “throw the dems off”? ;P
NO, I’m just using it as a comparison. What he said makes no sense. I should have been more clear of what I was intending to show. Sorry......
Kneelers are scum. If they could get away with putting up the finger to America, they would.
No worries. I just thought that perhaps I had missed a news item about this scumbag.
Ping.
It’s the smarmy, sanctimonious way that he says it that reflects badly on him.
At first glance I assumed that this was a FReeper joke———and it wasn’t.
Texas can do better than this piece of garbage.
.
I saw that drivel.
This nut bag tries to equate civil rights movement (led by Republicans) to disrespecting America during the National Anthem.
He talks about too many “unarmed black people being shot... by police.” He is trying to re-brand hatred of America as being “patriotic”? In their backwards world, hating America is patriotic.
He is also on record as being anti second amendment. That is going to go over well with my fellow Texans. Even the few democrats I know own guns here.
HA!
