CNN sources claimed it was a straight-up guilty plea without a commitment by Cohan to provide information to Mueller. Who knows what the truth is?

Mueller got to the bottom of the Russian collusion ..... I mean Trump’s connection to a stipper/porn star.

Our government is way out of control and Mueller is way outside the scope of the investigation.

Recently I was told that a friend died by someone very close to the event. He told me he was cutting down a tree and the tree snapped back and hit him in the side of the head, killing him.

Turns out the tree fell against another tree, turning the other tree into a powerful spring, and the part closest to the stump was lifted off the ground. The tree was then parallel to the ground and was snapped back to him like a battering ram and hit him in the chest, utterly crushing it.

i.e. I don’t trust early explanations on a breaking news story.

I can certainly understand why the government would want to avoid the uncertainty of a trial, but Cohen?

Campaign finance enforcement comes under the FEC.

The DoJ has no independent authority to investigate campaign finance, the FEC would have to request DoJ help.

Cohen probably wouldn’t commit tax fraud since he would know the government knows how to get money from rich people.

And bank fraud? A lawyer knows how to put things in the best possible light without telling a lie.

The taxi medallions would probably be under long-term leases.

The election of Presidential electors is governed by state law under the Constitution.

Also at the time, Trump was considered by almost all reputable experts to have no chance of winning. At that time, Trump was really only exercising his rights to political speech.

Also, these campaign finance laws seem to only trip up outsiders and are almost certainly unconstitutional.

NY Times, per Rush, says that he plead guilty to paying off women for Trump, which is ridiculous. Hush money payments are not a crime.

Consider Mueller’s devious cunning: he handed off the Cohen matter to the US Attorney in New York, so he can claim some distance from the activities — and possibly avoid facing ethics charges for prosecutorial misconduct.

Prosecutors are under an ethical obligation to advise defendants of exculpatory evidence and information. Having Cohen plead guilty to campaign finances violations (making hush money payments to two women seeking to publicize sexual affairs with Trump) without using campaign funds is extremely problematic. As was seen in the case of former US Senator and presidential candidate John Edwards, using private funds to pay off a mistress is not violative of campaign finance and campaign disclosure laws. It is stretching the truth to say that this was a campaign violation and the prosecutor ought to know this.

This is all about conflating the facts to get Trump and the prosecutors who permitted this ought to be disciplined for misconduct.

I am merely commenting on the hush money subject. Cohen’s other business dealings may be the subject of prosecution for breaking the law.
