TETERBORO, New Jersey (WABC) -- A plane is attempting to make an emergency landing after it blew off two of its tires during takeoff at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey.
An airport source said the pilot took off around 10:50 a.m. after its two front tires blew off, and the plane is now circling the airport before it attempts to land.
Sources said 16 people are on board. The aircraft is a Gulfstream IV, a jet flown mainly for private and business use.
The aircraft was heading to London Luton Airport in Luton, England.
The plane was expected to land at Teterboro around 12:20 p.m., but it was diverted to Westfield-Barnes Regional Airport in Westfield, Massachusetts.

Please explain how tires (on any vehicle or conveyance) can 'blow off'.
The phrase is inarticulate, and can't possibly be descriptive of what actually occurred.
I used to work as an A&P mechanic at the Gulfstream facility in Westfield MA.
Sounds like landing at BAF ( kbaf on the that website ) might have changed, I don't know where they are headed etc or if they will eventually land @ BAF.
I am guessing the tires exploded and as the plane was past the point of no return, the pilot had to take off or face plowing off the runway.
The plane is presently circling over southern Connecticut...around Milford and New Haven.
It has 3,400 gallons of fuel to burn.

Doesn’t sound all bad for a white hip hop artist.
A tire can shred and “Blow up.” Also, these tires are mounted on are “split rims.” A hot landing, where the brakes overheat, can cause bearing failure, and result in wheel failure.
You don’t want to be anywhere in a line of sight with the face of those rims when they blow apart. That is why a mechanic, aware o f a hot landing, will always approach the wheels from the nose or tail position.
Mechanics have been killed by exploding rime - then they scrape what’s left of you from the underside of the wing.
How do they decide where to have them circle to dump fuel? Doesn’t look like they are very close to the airport they are supposed to land at right now?

I would thank that a mechanic on those planes would make good money but according to my brother, he was only making about $35K at that time. Didn’t seem like it was commensurate with the responsibilities he had.

In those cases, he was able to serve as the co-pilot since over the years he was also collecting flying time (or whatever it is they need to be a full fledged pilot which was his ultimate goal)
True. That’s why I left the position. I eventually ended up as a maintenance controller for Shuttle America. Stationed at Bradley Field in Windsor Locks, CT. That is where I was on September 11, 2001. Never will forget that day for as long as I shall live.
