Re who would sue whom regarding the toppling of the Confederate statue?

The protestors would be sued for toppling/damaging it by whoever owned the statue - the university, a private foundation, a private donor, the state, alumni etc.

They could also be sued in a possibly new type of precedent case for “interfering with the First Amendment” rights (of free speech and EXPRESSION” because the statue told a story (expression does not have to be just in print or sound - art has been held to be a form of “expression” so destroying a work of art could be covered by the First Amendment).

It would make a great constitutional case and if America wins, then the Constitution is preserved re the 1st Amendment and all the Antifa/BLM/Black Bloc organizations could be sued under and charged with federal crimes.

Let me know what you think.

The police should be sued for “dereliction of duty”, if vandalism is a felony, then “Misprison of a felony” and “obstructing justice”, etc. Then they should be fired.
