Self-described "ass-kicking, motorcycle-riding, Texas Democrat" MJ Hegar, a candidate for Texas deep-red 31st district, has a novel approach to environmental politics: she doesnt care if her supporters believe in man-made climate change, but says it's hard to deny the corrupting effects of petroleum dependence on American foreign policy.
"Our dependence on foreign oil is just so damaging to our country on so many levels," Hegar told ABC News in a June interview. "I respect other peoples freedom to be discerning and to make their own decisions. But they cant deny that the U.S. military pays the price for our dependence on foreign oil that our diplomacy and foreign policy is complicated by our dependence."
Hegar is one of a number of progressive veterans running for Congress who have made climate change action a key part of their platforms.
"I dont think another country, or another entity, like OPEC, should be able to have such an impact on our economy," she said.

And let’s scrap that stoopid 2nd amendment too. What? A Marine?
Naw, man, she needs a solar powered skateboard!
;^)
One small problem, Grass-smoker...
Fortune.com: The U.S. is poised to take the title of worlds largest oil producer this year.
A lumbersexual “veteran”. Just what America DOESN’T need.
“Theres a bunch of veterans this year, who play up that one part of their lives...hoping their veteran status will disguise the awfulness of their now fiercely anti-American party.”
This Vietnam vet couldn’t agree more. I HATE vets who say “don’t you dare criticize my views, I’m a vet!!!” and wave their medals in people’s faces.
Seen this cr@P since Vietnam & later. Sen. Bob Kerrey in 1992 pointed to his artificial leg and Medal of Honor and bellowed “I support the assault weapons ban and don’t you ever challenge me!!”
She is uninformed on so many levels.
CAT quantifies and evaluates climate change mitigation commitments, and assesses, whether countries are on track to meeting those. It then aggregates country action to the global level, determining likely temperature increase by the end of the century. CAT also develops sectoral analysis to illustrate required pathways for meeting the global temperature goals.
What a pantload of politically correct horse hockey!
Exactly. Where are all the "sustainable development" folks at? The people who rail against large families but don't say jack when illegals come here and drop 5 or 6 anchor babies.
The pollution on the border.
Environmentalism is just another avenue towards the greater goal of socialism.

Do they think we’re that dumb? There is nothing new about this. The follow-on question is, “ok, then what?” And the answer is the same as Nancy Pelosi’s: windmills, switchgrass and unicorns.
#24. What is a “lumbersexual”? A woman with a woody?
"I respect other peoples freedom to be discerning and to make their own decisions. But they cant deny that the U.S. military pays the price for our dependence on foreign oil that our diplomacy and foreign policy is complicated by our dependence."
So, does that mean "drill, baby, drill"? Didn't think so. What a mealy-mouthed liar. Thanks Libloather.
So why isn't she on a Schwinn rather than a Harley?
“”Our dependence on foreign oil is just so damaging to our country on so many levels,” Hegar told ABC News”
Psssst!
Were you freeze-dried or in prison the past few years?
We’re importing less oil than we were before the energy crisis’s of the 1970’s.
Am I missing something in those CNBC numbers?
Total US refinery input = 18 million b/d (barrels of oil per day.)
US production capacity now exceeds 10 million b/d. (I just looked at the EIA report for July = 10.8 million b/d, and they predict 11.7 million b/d average in 2019.)
Total US oil & refined products exports = 8.5 million barrels per day.
This leaves 9.5 million barrels a day for internal consumption plus any losses in production and such.
A FReeper recently posted that total US “input” (my word, not his) was 20 million barrels a day, so I assume we presently import around 2 million barrels per day in the form of refined products, for total internal consumption of around 11.5 million b/d.
I conclude we are darn close to being able to supply our own needs. Or, am I missing something in those numbers?
Former Marine or not...she’s a commie nitwit. I’m a former Mainne.
“What? A Marine?”
No, a B.A.M.
There’s a “former Marine” running as a democrat against the GOP incumbent in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, a district that Donald Trump carried by 10 points.
The dems name is Jared Golden, and he is an anti-Trump liberal.
Oswald was a “former Marine”, too.
Illegals cause Global Warming.
Taking millions from 3rd world nations with very low carbon output and raising them to 1st world carbon output , is killing the planet.
