I think we can all agree that we want the brightest future for our children, especially children in the foster care system. The essence of being pro-life is preserving life of the innocent by all means necessary. By giving these children a chance at a good life, we need to support and cherish them through their development. One continuing conversation that arises is whether or not same-sex couples are fit to foster and adopt children; these extra examinations are often based on misconceptions and biases towards same-sex couples. This slows down the process of adoption, adding extra hurdles to the process, and delaying a childs start in their new home.
There is a recorded 438,000 children in the foster care system at any given moment. According to LGBT Adoption Statistics, same-sex couples make up 21.20% of households who have adopted children in the United States. Comparatively, only 4.80% of opposite-sex couples have adopted children. The LGBT Adoption Statistics also includes that more than 16,000 same-sex couples are raising an estimated 22,000 adopted children in the United States. The pro-life community should look to these same-sex couples with appreciation that theyve decided to step into adopt or foster these children, giving them an opportunity to have a conventional childhood.
If you are for small-government, then how can you justify certain individuals withholding the right to adopt from others? Regardless of what private religious organizations do, the government-run facilities should not regulate who is allowed to adopt children based on religious beliefs. Prospective parents, whether heterosexual or homosexual couples, are put through many tests and assessments in order to verify that the child is going to go to a good home. Each state has their own laws regarding LGBT adoption. To figure out what your state laws are you can visit: https://www.lifelongadoptions.com/lgbt-adoption-resources/lgbt-adoption-laws.
It is statistically proven that same-sex families prosper more within their jobs, and thus creates a favorable income. Having a comfortable income relieves marital stress, promotes better educational opportunities for their kids, allows them to take relaxing vacations regularly, etc. With a higher income, one parent has the opportunity to stay at home and be the caretaker, while the other is making money.
When more people are willing to accept the idea that being raised in a same-sex home is just as natural as growing up in a heterosexual home, then this misconception about two women or men raising a child being unfit will dissipate. No parent is going to be perfect. Penalizing same-sex couples and not allowing them to adopt or raise children due to their sexuality is not only outdated and prejudiced, but antithetical to the pro-life values and movement.
It is time to put the option in adoption for LGBT couples.
This is like claiming that 21% of all couples who adopt are Methodists, while only 4.5% of all non-Methodists have adopted.
Each of the two separate statistics might, on their own, be true - But they are not comparable! And justaposing them as thought they were comparable is intellectually dishonest!
Regards
P.S. I find it also highly unlikely that more than one-fifth of all couples who have adopted are homosexual - and besides, if it were true, what need to argue for rescinding the prohibition on homo-adoption?
No, you are misreading the article (which is actually making a false / dishonest representation).
"According to LGBT Adoption Statistics, same-sex couples make up 21.20% of households who have adopted children in the United States."
This implies that they counted the number of couples who have adopted, and then determined that more than one-fifth of those couples are homos. Either a blatant lie or a skipped decimal point. AND, if such a high percentage of adopters were homos - why at all the need to advocate for homo-adoption?!
Regards,
Not even then.
We need to return to the days when homosexual acts were illegal. We would not be having these perverts run amuck in our society if that had remained as it should have.
“Their women exchanged the normal practices of sexual intercourse for something which is abnormal and unnatural.
Similarly the men, turning from natural intercourse with women, were swept into lustful passions for one another. Men with men performed these shameful horrors, receiving, of course, in their own personalities the consequences of sexual perversity.”
(New Testament, Romans 1:26,27)
“I dont get the stats listed.
Same sex couples make up 21% of households who have adopted?
And opposite sex couples only make up 4.5% of households who have adopted?
Not sure how that could be?”
It’s because you are misquoting the article.
Is there a percentage for Single Women who Adopt, especially Celebrity Single Women?
Heck, Laura Ingraham Adopted three Kids and she isn’t Married.
Now, I will disagree with most on this. If a kid is past the prime adoptable age (12 and above is when nobody want to adopt) or if they are part of a sibling group (again most don’t want to raise more than 1 or 2), Gay parents should be able to adopt. Why subject kids to failure (growing up I knew a few orphaned kids, as soon as they hit 18. Bye, nothing else. One became homeless, another joined the military. Both died before they hit 25.
No actually I am quoting it correctly
from article
“same-sex couples make up 21.20% of households who have adopted children in the United States. “
Go back and read.
No actually I am quoting it correctly
from article
“same-sex couples make up 21.20% of households who have adopted children in the United States. “
Go back and read.
The article stated “Comparatively, only 4.80% of opposite-sex couples have adopted children.”
You wrote “And opposite sex couples only make up 4.5% of households who have adopted?”
LOL
You are in a wad because I typed .5 instead of .8??
No, because you changed the entire meaning of their statistics.
Comparatively, only 4.80% of opposite-sex couples have adopted children.
That means that of all opposite couples, 4.8% have adopted children.
And opposite sex couples only make up 4.8% of households who have adopted.
That means that of all couples that have adopted, 4.8% are opposite sex.
Yes they can have kids, they’re called lawyers.
that may be what the article stated but surely you do not think that only 4.8% of all who have adopted are opposite sex couples
do you?
still it is strange to be so upset because I posted a .5 instead of .8
It is not what I think, nor is it what the article stated, it is what you wrote in post 18.
And opposite sex couples only make up 4.5% of households who have adopted?
from article
“According to LGBT Adoption Statistics, same-sex couples make up 21.20% of households who have adopted children in the United States. Comparatively, only 4.80% of opposite-sex couples have adopted children”
YES I made the error of posting 4.5 instead of 4.8. OH the horror.
Good grief
I am done
The 4.5% to 4.8%% error was not the problem.
The problem was that you changed the entire meaning of the data.
