Defense Secretary Jim Mattis expressed solidarity with President Trump’s stripping of former Obama CIA Director John Brennan’s security clearance earlier this week. “All I can tell you is, I have taken security clearances away from people in my previous time in uniform, and a security clearance is something that is granted on an as-needed basis,” he told Pentagon reporters traveling with him in South America on Friday.
The comment came in response to a question on what he thought about former intelligence officials denouncing the president for stripping Brennan’s security clearance.
Earlier this week, retired Navy Adm. Bill McRaven published a letter criticizing the president for stripping Brennan’s security clearance and asking him to take away his as well....

Tell McRaven to simply not have it renewed.
There are more clearances lost than kept. Security clearances do not necessarily follow you when you are transferred. Clearances in Government are expensive so few are granted. Rank has its privilege.

That’s the way I always understood it. Why the hell is Brennan’s little buddy, McRaven, having to beg the president to pull his clearance? That should be automatic. McRaven has no business having a clearance now that he’s hangin’ with the snowflakes at the Institute Of Commie Libism in Austin.
Trump should grant McRaven’s wish and revoke his clearance Monday. Then every day yank another clearance.
I wonder if it was Navy Adm. Bill McRaven that put all of Seal Team 6 on one helicopter, then had them sent to get blown out of the sky in Afghanistan?
It’s strange that such an accomplished and respected Navy admiral would retire and immediately be named Chancellor of his alma mater.
Now he retires due to poor health and would like to write and teach and, oh, be an advisor at Los Alamos.
He also has plenty of time to join the scurrilous gang criticizing his Commander in Chief, and to support a traitotous, political hack working for a left wing cable outfit.

Mattis knows what he’s doing.
He’s been dealing with war and politics and the need to make changes, where warranted a lot more than you have.

Mattis is correct and is stating a fact.
Clearances are indeed only given and kept on a need to know basis.
