Russia will spend hundreds of millions of rubles on restoring the golden dome of the National Capitol Building in Havana, Cuba, in what Russian critics have said is an example of misplaced spending.
Russian users reacted sarcastically to the plan, with opposition leader Alexei Navalnys aide Leonid Volkov calling it brilliant news, simply the best.
Popular blogger Ilya Varlamov wrote a post on Telegram ridiculing Russias decision to spend the money abroad.
Russia will spend 642 million rubles to restore roads and repair hospitals across the country! he wrote.
Whoops, I made a typo, sorry!"
Though opened after eight years of restoration work ahead of presidential elections this spring, work continues on restoring the southern part of the Capitol by November 2019, when Havana will celebrate the 500th anniversary of its founding.

hmm...pretty.
So, Russia has money to waste, too? Who knew? What is government good for except flushing money down the toilet?
Putin has his reasons for this.
Speaking of down the toilet, the money would be far better spent on toilet paper. It’s something the people could actually use.
It could use a coat of paint while they’re at it.
Ha, ha, ha... good point! I’m sure they will admire their new dome as they scrounge around looking for enough to eat.
There is some good looking architecture in that photo. All they need is some capitalists to fix it up and maintain it.
Looks vaguely familiar somehow. Can't quite place it.
So....when they weren’t commies, they had enough money to cover the thing in gold, but now......Hmmmmm.....
Lookin’ for a parking space for missiles ................................................................................... again.
And a lot of Uranium to sell.
One I remember was an upside-down picture of a state capitol building with the caption "It would take X millions to make capitol building look like this."
We should fix it with a smart bomb.
Putin could be signalling, “We’re back”. Not good.
But holy cr@p, that ten million could have been used to do some kind of good for impoverished Cubans.
Beautiful building. Looks like it needs a paint job also.
Lot of construction projects in Cuba stopped midway when the user went under. Infrastructure isn’t being maintained outside if the major cities and very little outside of tourist areas there.
My 1st trip to Cuba in 2012 there was scaffolding around the capital time, still there this summer. We went by a building where a tree had grown up in scaffolding.
Cubans would rather have more food, or potable water.
