President Donald Trump's latest marching orders to the Pentagon could end a nearly 30-year hiatus of major military parades in the US.
It's not unusual to see cheering crowds greeting troops and veterans in Fourth of July parades and celebrations for Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Flyovers featuring the latest bombers are common at high-profile sporting events, and Fleet Week programs put military hardware front and center. But unlike the post-World War I and World War II era, when the spectacle of tanks and heavy equipment was more common, there have not been many recent showcases of US military strength.
Here's a look at how the country used to display its military might:
1942, 1946: New York parades
1953: Eisenhower's inauguration
1961: Kennedy's inauguration

Yeah, but did they cost $93 trillion dollars or whatever the lsm is advertising the cost of this one to be?
We grew up with military parades. When television arrived en mass in the ‘50’s we saw the parades from all over the nation.
I don’t see the point in beating this dead horse...
He’s cancelled it already,
over the COST, already,
Postponed until 2019, which will doubtfully be any cheaper.
So...CNN...shut up about it already.
This out of CNN?
Interesting...
Military parades cost whatever they cost, they are all about the same cost in then-year dollars.
They serve an important purpose: to show the world US military might, without having to engage in actual shooting war, so they may save money and lives in the long run.
Engaging in two wars and God know how many skirmishes for the last 15 years hasn't done that already?
Face it. There no longer exists the common consensus in America that would make a military parade a celebratory, unifying, joyful event. Suspect there would be counter demonstrations and even attacks on the parade applauded by the left wing media.
Gulf War Victory Parade in 1991 cost $12m, adjusting for inflation that would be 22m in 2018. The WAPO came up with the figure of 92m - pulled out of their magic hat.
The subversives in the gov't/media complex can not afford to have Trump's approval rating go any higher, which would likely happen after such a patriotic display of our military power.
The parade after the 1991 gulf war cost an estimated 8 million...yet, 5 million of that came from private sources. Trump could do the same, perhaps better, from private donors.
You guys are missing what’s going on. We are doing this in 2020 when we can introduce our newest military branch to the world. March on Space Force!!!!
President Trump was at France’s Bastille Day Parade last year. The French do this every year and they seem to be able to afford it. They apparently take great pride in their military. Plenty of YouTube videos. President Trump thought it would be nice to do the same for our military. Apparently many in the DC area thinks it’s a terrible ideasomething Hitler would do.
Libs will do anything to take a honor away from our Troops and the President who actually loves them.
Democrats have had parades before too. All in white.
I really hope there would NOT be a bust of Trump — apparently the Dems had to glorify Roosevelt in that parade with a giant bust — NO THANKS!! Check out those pics!!
And Dems say Trump supporters are nuts!!!
...not to mention the victory parade.
A Surplus Collectors Dream!
Why not just incorporate a military parade into an existing parade during Thanksgiving or Christmas?
