The former girlfriend of Democratic Congressman Keith Ellison sat down with CBS News on Thursday to talk about the abuse she says she endured during their relationship. Just days before the primary, Karen Monahan’s son posted on Facebook that he had seen a video of Ellison dragging his mother off a bed by her feet in Ellison’s home. Monahan spoke with CBS’s Jericka Duncan about why she decided to share her story.
“At this point in time, I’m grounded and I know who I am. I have healed for a year and a half. I looked straight at him and said I never ruined your career, I didn’t choose to do the things that you did, I didn’t choose for you to drag me off the bed,” said Monahan. When Monahan was asked why she chose to share her story now she replied, “I followed my gut that I’ve been trying to push down for a year and a half.”
Monahan previously told reporters she can’t release a video of the incident because she lost it in a storage locker. Ellison, who just won the Democratic primary for Attorney General, adamantly denied any abuse in an interview with WCCO yesterday.

I'm guessing she wasn't fully dressed at the time of the incident, and is embarrassed for others to see her like that. She was dragged off a bed, after all.
They could blur things out. I don’t see any way of not releasing the tape if she wants to knock him out of the race.
True, but that may not have occurred to her as of yet.
There's also the possibility that she may be worried that the unedited version of the tape could get out anyway, despite all promises of confidentiality.
I'm just trying to imagine what's making her so reluctant to release it.
If WCCO is attacking him, the DNC is trying to force him to resign as they know he can’t win.
Expect them to do a last min switch-o-roo to save the AG as it will impact Gov and Senate race

That’s so fuunny. I reality, abuse only enhances his resume.
“Two women so far have said he physically abused them, no doubt more to come.”
How did that work for “better put some ice on that” Bill Clinton?
Actually, we want him to stay in the race.
The MN DNC has plenty of people just as bad in the wings.
If he stays in, it is almost for sure he will loose and he will probably effect the Gov and Senate race.
No guarantee we will pick up the Gov and Senate but it WILL effect those races.
Ellison is not well liked in MN outside of his district.
Sounds fair to me.
Because maybe it doesn't exist?
That's also a possibility, but she'd have to be some kind of fool to make that claim, knowing she couldn't back it up.
If we assume that she's lying about the tape, then it's probably safe to assume that she's also lying about the abuse, and that Ellison isn't really the monster she's making him out to be. Maybe the whole thing is a political hit job, set up to ruin Ellison's political career.
Does he have enemies on the left that hate him that bad?
