A crackdown on the controversial H-1B visa intended for skilled workers has struck Indian citizens harder than other foreign nationals, with federal officials hitting them with more visa denials and demands for proof of their eligibility to work.

Also, among Indians, lying in the resume is a HUGE issue. Corruption is endemic in the eastern world, Especially the middle east and india.

And I really don’t want to work over 40 hours a week. I’d also really prefer to work part time. I never went back to work because I couldn’t find part time work.

We'd much rather hire citizens, but there is no supply! There would be more supply you economic idiot if the foreigners were kept OUT of the equation.

Also, don’t feel too bad for me. We but a home here many years ago. After our daughter graduates from college next May, we are moving out of California to a red state. I’m sad to leave, but ready.

Lack of skills and ability to perform, sweetheart. If that truly is the case then presumably you would not object to a system whereby the government charges for H1-B visas, such that the charge is set as the differential between the going rate for a US citizen doing a comparable job and an H1-B applicant. The revenue generated could then be applied to giving training grants to US citizens or companies that agree to train US citizens to do the jobs of the H1-B applicants.

I have heard from IT people that when the program began, years ago, foreigners were pretty good employees, but over the years, they are not so good.
They take time off, a lot of time off, are not as interested in doing a good job and some say appear to be “lazy”, so perhaps they have changed their work ethic, and it does NOT resemble the true American worker’s.

A very good friend of mine is from India. He HATEs the H-1B program. He came here on an education visa and applied for a green card and waited two year to get it.
He was very lucky then. Typically a green card for a guy like him can take seven to nine years.
That's a whole nother issue. Our immigration laws actually torture people who try and come the RIGHT way by putting them through year after year of Bureaucrat Hell.

I’ve been in IT for over 20 years and have worked for companies that go one way and ones that go the other. You are both right in your observations.

A corporation that doesnt fudge anything. OK. We believe you.
So all corporations are bad? I'm guessing you're a big Bernie supporter...

No problem at all, but you are aware there are already $15k to $20k in additional legal fees already associated right?

You believe that high salaries and high demand keep American's from seeking STEM degrees?
That's counter-intuitive.

You believe that high salaries and high demand keep American's from seeking STEM degrees? Salaries are artificiality depressed by H-1Bs you dolt.

What would happen to US IT salaries if all immigration was stopped immediately?

A massive share of SV’s successful founders, marketing execs, etc., is now from India.
Granted, they are a minority, but there are plenty who are very, very good and contribute greatly to our economy.

Nice, name-calling.
When IT becomes a low paying industry, perhaps you'll start to have a half a leg to stand on.

What would happen to IT salaries if all H-1B immigration was banned?

Also, among Indians, lying in the resume is a HUGE issue. And there is an entire industry of people who do nothing but take tests for others for their "certifications". They've pretty much rendered the entire concept moot.

Exactly. If there is such low turnover then price is not a determining factor.
