Joe Arpaio should drop out of a U.S. Senate race to allow a conservative candidate a better shot at the nomination, says an immigration watchdog.
August 28 is drawing closer. That is the day Arizona Republicans vote in their primary to pick a nominee to fill the seat being vacated by Jeff Flake.
At the moment, Rep. Martha McSally is leading tea party favorite Kelli Ward (pictured below) by a RealClearPolitics average of eight points. But that is in large part due to the continued presence of the well-known former sheriff, who is splitting the conservative vote with Ward as primary day draws closer.
Four polls are included in the RealClearPolitics analysis, all of them showing McSally with a lead that ranges from two to 13 points, with Ward following in second place in all four polls.

This story could have been written at the time Arpaio announced for the Senate. It is self-evident that he will cause Dr. Ward’s defeat in the primary.
It is the saddest situation. He has these people around him that are totally using him. I would like to see an accounting of the money.
Here in Arizona, McSally is trying to paint Dr. Ward as pro-illegal immigration because she supported a bill that would have restricted the NSA’s invasion of citizens’ privacy. You have to listen VERY carefully to realize the true meaning behind the smear ad.
He is 86 years old-enough!!!!!
And McCain is a terrorist-supporting, lying, traitorous scumbag! Even a thief would be a step in the right direction.
Trump gives him a pardon and this is how he pays him back?
This upsets me very much. I organized and funded a big rally for the Arizona immigration law 1070 in 2010 in Tempe at which Joe was the big draw. I simply can’t fathom why he is doing this now to wreck Kelli.
The RINO Flake will get replaced with a RINO McSally, or an authentic DEM. What is the actual difference? McSally will likely jump to the DEMs if the majority is in the balance.
He needs to withdraw.
McCain is not going to last long. A real RNC/GOP would be talking to Arpaio already, promising the interim seat when McCain does stop down (one way or another). Sadly, the RNC wants to continue to do absolutely NOTHING, and just ride on Trump's wave.
Uh, look at who paid for that ad......it is likely a Dem PAC. They are running ads against McSally under the banner of Red and Gold, but it is a Dem group. McSally is only running ads for herself. She has run no attack ads. Kelli Ward did have an attack ad against McSally, but I haven’t heard it in a while.
Please get the facts. McSally votes 90% with Trump. And she has a House voting record to show. Kelli Ward will not beat Kyrsten Sinema. That is what you have to understand. Flame away Wardsters.
I honestly don’t see what good Arpaio would do in either seat. He’s 86. Yes, he’d be better than McSally or McCain or Flake but we’d just be doing this again within four years. Other than satisfying one man’s ego there’s nothing to be gained by Joe Arpaio in the U.S. Senate. You served your country well as the Sheriff for Maricopa County, Joe. So well that the demonrat Obama administration had to cheat to get you out of it and then President Trump rescued you with a blanket pardon before the Obama people could convict you of anything. It’s time to retire into the sunset and endorse your ideological daughter, Dr. Kelli Ward, Joe.
Kelli has pounded the pavement for well over a year getting to know people all over the state. I hate to see her lose as she has worked so very hard.
We can pray for a miracle. How many times did we hear that Hillary was going to win and Trump not having a chance?
Primary 2 weeks from today.If McCain croaks Ward should get the seat for 2+ years-incumbency in 2020. If she were to lose in 2020 the seat comes up in 2022. It should be McSally depending on her ACU score.
My sentiments exactly....and just what I said to a very good friend who is a Ward supporter. I said that Ward should be appointed to McCain’s seat and show that she has the strength to be a Senator. I am not particularly a McSally supporter, but do respect her Military service......and she is the only one who can beat Sinema (and McSally will still have a hard time doing that. I pray we can hold the seat. Especially with Sinema running ads since April, using her Marine brother as a supporter, and NEVER MENTIONING THAT SHE IS A DEM)

The FACT is McSally is much more liberal than Flake. I’ll vote for her if she wins the primary due to judges. But I’m NOT going to vote for the liberal Republican in the primary!
