The White House push to confront rivals over trade has spread beyond the worlds biggest economies such as China and Europe to include poorer countries that also see the U.S. as a critical market for their goods.
Since President Trump took office 18 months ago, the U.S. Trade Representative has launched wide-ranging reviews of the eligibility of less-developed countries for a federal government program that lowers tariffs for thousands of the products they export to the U.S.

A program called GSP allows tariff free exports from countries around the world (121 countries in all) to help their economies.
In 2016, such exports into the US totaled $19 billion.
India exported $5.6 billion under the program
Thailand exported $4.2 billion under the program
Meanwhile, the same countries are inhibiting US access to their markets.
I'm so tired of all this trade BS. End the GSP program and put tariffs on all those exports into the US.
‘Helping their economies’ was the reason for tariff-free imports from Asia and Europe after WW2. It was an act of charity and to help keep nations from Communism.
The Republican ‘free trade’ fetish was invented later.
With India, we're helping their economy so that their citizens can come to America and steal jobs from Americans.
A picture from India, we helped build. Trump keeps saying how we build China. And we did it with borrowed money! National debt $21,000,000,000,000 and climbing every year. Current interest payments on national debt = $365,000,000,000 every year.

Fairness across the board - Equal tariffs (and non-tariff barriers) both ways.
Those countries that serve as “pass through” back doors for Chinese goods to enter our markets untaxed, should lose more in retaliation then they might hope to gain from the fraud.
