Anti-racist protesters staging non-violent demonstrations in Charlottesville, Virginia, Saturday said they were aggravated and perplexed by the heightened police presence that involved dozens of law enforcement officers in riot gear.
The nearly 200 protesters were gathered to march against white supremacy almost one year after a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville turned violent, resulting in the death of local resident, Heather Heyer.
On Saturday, hundreds of police officers surrounded Charlottesville's downtown area throughout the day in order to preclude any violent outbursts, according to multiple reports. Though there were no white nationalist events scheduled, many feared a repeat of last year, when authorities were blasted for being underprepared for the violence that broke out.
According to The Washington Post and Associated Press reports, the nighttime protesters mobilized against the police presence, which some described as aggressive and which some compared to last year's white supremacists.
"Last year they came with torches,” said a large banner in downtown Charlottesville, according to the Washington Post. “This year they come with badges.”
Videos from the march show police in neon riot gear flanking peaceful protesters on all sides as they march through the streets.
"Cops and Klan go hand in hand," Kibiriti Majuto, a coordinator for the University of Virginia's UVA Students United, told the AP.
An independent investigation by a former federal prosecutor of last year's rally determined the violence got out of hand, in part, because law enforcement was overly passive and uncoordinated.
“I see a disproportionality,” Lisa Woolfork, a UVA professor, told the Post. “Unless there is something they’re not telling us and have some intelligence that the white nationalists will still march in force, it seems like who they’re gearing up to monitor and observe and contain and discipline are those of us who want to resist fascism and racism.”
Activists reportedly began chanting, "Why are you in riot gear? We don't see no riot here."
Earlier Saturday, UVA's student newspaper, The Cavalier Daily, reported that up to 300 National Guard troops and more than 700 Virginia State troopers were set to be housed in part in UVA's campus housing.
Hundreds of white nationalists are set to host "Unite the Right 2" in Washington, D.C., on Sunday evening, one year after the rally in Charlottesville. Opponents have organized counter-protests in the city throughout the day and are expected to come face-to-face with white supremacist groups outside the White House on Sunday evening.
D.C. police, as well as D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, have stated multiple times that law enforcement will be out in full force in order to keep the dueling protest groups separate and to prevent any potential violence.
It’s pathetic that all the left has are slogans and chants that eventually dissolve in to “F*ck You” and a single finger when confronted by anyone who doesn’t parrot their mantra.
Would be nice if The Hill actually identified who the anti-rightists groups and leaders were including Black Lives Matter, ANSWER (a communist front organization of the Workers World Party/Party of Socialism and Liberation), Antifa (a combined Marxist/anarchist national organization of psychopathic Black and Red Bloc street thugs), Students for Justice for Palestine, a pro-Hamas/Fatah organization, and several “progressive” and/or “socialist” organizations from ISO to Socialist Alternative, to local Virginia “progressive” political organizations with a very Marxist tinge (influenced, if not organized by veteran Marxist Steve Phillips = see “www.keywiki.org” and its links to the major series on him at www.TrevorLoudon.com.

Hopefully we will have more such reporting from Sunday’s rallies and riots.
When MSM or The Hill calls someone anti-racist it is a sure bet that the someone is purely a racist.
This whole thing is scripted for optimum TV coverage. Seriously. A confrontation in front of the White House is being setup by government officials and the media in the hopes somebody (preferably a black kid) gets killed there. That is the picture that every media outlet wants on their front page Monday morning. That is why they are the enemy of the people. The left has always used the bodies of the black community as sandbags around their firing positions. Many in the black community are beginning to recognize this.
Antifa are the thugs who need to be controlled. The pictures I saw were about 10 people. Not 200.
Calling white nationalist, white supremist is also misleading. The white nationalist dont want the birders open. Those who aren’t on the left are labeled white supremist. Kid’s all a lie an agenda to silence Americans. Obama’s domestic army.
Anybody who resist the left is labeled a white supremist.

The violence was planned in advance by antifa, and the mayor and police chief let them carry out the violence. They weren’t “underprepared” they were complicit in the violence.

You can demonstrate against Jews in Skokie. You can advocate killing all whites people. You can stand out in front of a Philadelphia with a night stick telling whites to stay our. People can gather and demonstrate with a permit . We have a first amendment here that says no law shall Abridge total unfettered free speech. It is totally “tolerated” in the United States. Under the law!
