Bans don’t seem to be lessening reach of Alex Jones, InfoWars
Austin American-Statesman ^ | August 11th, 2018 | By Sebastian Herrera and Nicole Cobler

Some of the nation’s largest technology and social media companies have tried to stop Alex Jones and his conspiracy theories. But in a digital world, their attempts seem to have barely slowed him down.

After YouTube, Facebook and others this week removed content by Jones and his website, the InfoWars leader, talk show host and Austin resident fired back, accusing the companies of censorship and urging his audience to fight back against what he called an “unprecedented attack.”

Meanwhile, Jones’ website and other online platforms have remained popular destinations.

InfoWars continues to see more than 1 million page visits per day and has trended upward this month, according to Amazon’s Alexa website traffic report, which also said InfoWars averages more than 25 million page views per month.

Consumers still can access InfoWars through the same tech companies that just banned it. Google still offers the Infowars app for Android users, and Apple customers can download it through the App Store.

As of Friday, the show’s phone app remained near the top of the charts in both the Apple App and Google Play stores. Infowars Official, an app that lets viewers stream Jones’ shows and read news of the day, was ranked fourth among trending apps in the Google Play store Friday. In the news category on Apple’s App Store, Infowars earned the fourth slot under the top free apps, behind Twitter and News Break, a local and breaking news service, revealing a sudden boost of user downloads.

“But Facebook is a monopoly in a sense.”

Granted, they have a near monopoly over 15 year girls sharing make-up secrets, cute cat videos and complaining “That Cindy thinks she’s better than everyone else”.

“There are already Democrats calling for other sites from Breitbart to Joe Rogan’s show to be banned.”

And they were calling to take Drudge and Rush off the air too.

This has been going on for at least 20 years.

They don’t have the power to do it. They don’t even have the power to take Infowars.com off the air.

There are plenty of registrars.

Hundreds

https://www.icann.org/registrar-reports/accredited-list.html

Just like there are hundred of book publishers.

Should any of them be compelled by any authority to carry Nazi content?

“Should the phone company be able to block you from making calls because they don’t like your opinion? Same thing.”

Ridiculous. An exposition of ignorance.

Facebook does not control access to the internet. Not even close.

FaceBook and a few other companies completely control social media.

Social Media is the town square.

You would shut out conservatives from the town square and let the left dominate American for another 50 years.

Talk about ignorance.

Do you have a couple of hundred billion to start a FB competitor?

“Social Media is the town square.”

Wrong.

The Internet is the town square.

Facebook is the ladies sewing club on main street.

Your knowledge of technology is about 10-15 years behind.

My most recent engagement was to manage the $17 billion acquisition of one chip maker by another, to include a total of 45gb of Internet access and 10gb of 3rd party connections. All internet services, to include FW and Proxy, DNS and DLP were migrated from one to the other.

Their backbone is multiple, redundant 40gb WAN links and they are currently working with Cisco and Juniper on a 100gb datacenter backbone.

I have been in this business since before the first browser was produced. My technical skills are still in demand by the biggest, most advanced companies in the world.

And you think I’m 10-15 years behind.

I have built network infrastructure, public and private, that dwarfs anything you have ever heard of.

And you think I am 10-15 years behind.

Think about that.

And Duck Duck Go is just a front-end for Google. It limits Google tracking but uses Google for all search results.

And any idiot knows that.

Search for a product they definitely control which vender is at or near the top.

You three guys seem to think we are too stupid to know who controls access to data and they have several ways to accomplish their goal, one of the ways is to depend on the ignorance of the user.

At some point the sum total of man's knowledge will be available at our finger tips and it will all be vulnerable to change/editing. Think that one over and hope that some benevolent conservative will be able to take on these giants.

You’ve had a great impressive career.

However many/most people get their information and form their opinions via social media platforms. Especially people under 30.

Why do you think Marketing Departments spend so much time on social media?

To let FB and the rest decide who can post content gives them tremendous power over our politics.

Should Twitter ban President Trump from posting? By your purists logic the answer is yes.

It’s already moving from Social Media to Cloud Providers. (Microsoft/Gab).

What’s to stop your ISP from even allowing access to the Internet?

The Left can’t compete on ideas and our determined to shut down conservative voices. You are helping them.

“However many/most people get their information and form their opinions via social media platforms.”

I don’t agree.

According the Pew, 42% of Americans get SOME of their news from Facebook, with 18% having Facebook as their only source.

Those 18% are not smart enough to be conservative and are unlikely to be actual voters. And there’s no way to reach them. Even IF you put your stuff up on FB.

“Should Twitter ban President Trump from posting? By your purists logic the answer is yes.”

Also not correct.

Should they be able to? They are able to now. But it would not be a smart business decision.

“What’s to stop your ISP from even allowing access to the Internet?”

Then they would not be an ISP, and they would have NO customers. Besides, it’s arguable the Internet is a utility and Telcos MUST offer access. Failure to do so will certainly get their area awarded to another provider. It would be like them forcing you onto their Long Distance service at $.50/minute. The FCC would kill them. The courts have already decided this one.

“Why do you think Marketing Departments spend so much time on social media?”

Because that’s where the stupid people live. Oh, and women/girls. And they buy a lot of clothes, make-up, household items etc.

But when was the last time you saw an ad for a bass boat, a pick-up or a lawnmower on Facebook? Like never?

“Search for a product they definitely control which vender is at or near the top.”

I agree and anyone can buy their way to the top.

“You three guys seem to think we are too stupid to know who controls access to data “

There’s only one here.

That said, Facebook or Youtube do not control access to data. They control access to their platforms. They have no power or influence over whether the data is available elsewhere.

Should anyone, especially government, force every media provider to offer anything at all? Should they be forced to offer Infowars? Should Fox be forced to offer Jim Acosta?

Or are Infowars and Jim Acosta available on another channel?

That is absolutely not true. You whole argument is null when you make a statement like that. Jones was on both those platforms and he is controlled as are almost anyone with adequate followers, that do not toe(sic) their party line. They can and do hide people without their knowledge. They appear to themselves as if nothing has changed but it has.

Diamod and Silk are a danger to the community, get real.

Go ahead and try that, if it could be done it would have been done already, because there are trillions of dollars involved.

I have always been afraid of what an unregulated dispenser of knowledge can become, clearly the news media have justified my fears.

You have every right to walk down a sidewalk but when a steam roller approaches most will give that right away.

You totally underestimate the power of social media.

Companies do not spend billions in ads for an ineffective platform. It is giving the left a very powerful advantage over conservatives in the 2018 elections.

I heard a social media expert on Brietbart radio the other day claim that by manipulating News search results, Google had given HRC a 2 million vote bump.

You can make fun of FB users as Women, Teens and Old people but they do vote and their vote is worth just as much as yours. I would rather that they be informed voters rather than brain-washed voters.

The SM blocking of infowars is also a restraint of trade. They are intentionally causing him financial harm.

You seem to miss the fact that stand-alone websites are not nearly as powerful or popular as SM sites. They are missing out on the “Network effect”.

I can’t figure out why it’s okay to force a baker to make a homosexual wedding cake, but it’s okay to deny service to Jones?

Especially when the couple had 100’s of choices to bake a cake whereas for all practical purposes much of Internet is a monopoly.
