igh above one of the most hotly contested regions in the world, CNN was given a rare look Friday at the Chinese government's rapidly expanding militarization of the South China Sea
Aboard a US Navy P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance plane, CNN got a view from 16,500 feet of low-lying coral reefs turned into garrisons with five-story buildings, large radar installations, power plants and runways sturdy enough to carry large military aircraft. During the flight the crew received six separate warnings from the Chinese military, telling them they were inside Chinese territory and urging them to leave. "Leave immediately and keep out to avoid any misunderstanding," a voice said.

Trump will just unleash global warming and the seas will rise over the artificial islands. Then h will create storms to wash them away.
How do they reply to these messages?
A simple FU?
Or a polite “we are in international waters- don’t YOU make a ‘misunderstanding’, or else...”
china may soon be experiencing a series of mysteriously disappearing submarines and surface vessels.
But “Russia Russia Russia”!
There’s a simple solution. They can build any Island they please, but we never recognize them as territory. If we drill an oil platform the surrounding 12 miles do not become US territorial Waters. Essentially they’re building fixed aircraft carriers. Everywhere one of our carriers goes doesn’t become us water. Why can’t one of our leaders articulate this simple concept?
Go away ,we not wantee you here
Now who is regretting retiring the Blackbird?
Is there a replacement? (Don’t answer that. We don’t have a “need to know”.)
The article quotes exactly how they replied.
Roger that, screw these people.
The minute you take an ounce of their crap you legitimize their ridiculous South China Sea claims.
It’s international waters - end of story, Chicoms.
“How do they reply to these messages?”
Here you go, no sense in giving CNN more hits on their website.
Each time the aircraft was challenged by Chinese military, the US Navy crew’s response was the same.
“I am a sovereign immune United States naval aircraft conducting lawful military activities beyond the national airspace of any coastal state,” the response said.
“In exercising these rights guaranteed by international law, I am operating with due regard for the rights and duties of all states.”
Where’s Bush’s hurricane machine?
China has modelled their Empire building in the South China Sea after 1930’s Japan. Except instead of conquering territory, they simply built their own out of uninhabited areas.
Some day, one of these bases is going to fire on a US military asset. The US will have to respond with total obliteration of the offending installation. Then continue business as usual, unless China wants to go to war. Then things would get tense.
I don’t believe anything coming from CNN.
While half the nation frets over the minuscule Russian threat, China builds, plans & occasionally threatens to nuke us.
the beautiful thing about sand islands is that they are fixed in place and they are likely to suffer liquefaction when a big enough bomb hits them.
The reply should have been “If you want a war that’s how you get a war.”
The next step up is leave immediately or your will be fired upon. Our response should be Trumpian.
Ditto that.
Similarly, I recently watched an NBC news "Dateline" with Megyn Kelly interviewing Catherine Oxenberg about the actress's daughter and her involvement in a New York sex cult.
The state of NY is prosecuting the "leader" of the sex ring for, among other things, "branding" his female victims.
It's a frightening story, and my wife was understandably upset.
Once the program ended, I looked over at her and said "State of NY prosecutors, NBC News, Megyn Kelly...how do we know any of what we just saw and heard is true?"
“The question is when push comes to shove will the US go to war over the area? “
Will the US continue to navigate military assets in this area?
Yes.
Will the US use military assets to ensure it can continue to do so?
A resounding yes.
We do not need to go to war to assert military power.
The US Navy, and combined services, will keep this artery open to navigation by all countries. If necessary we will kill and destroy to do it.
China will not go to war with the US. They are not capable of defending themselves sufficiently to avoid a complete rout.
