A Tennessee convicted child rapist and killer on Wednesday picked a deluxe burger combo as his last meal before his execution -- the first in the state in nearly a decade.
Billy Ray Irick, 59, chose the combo that included a super deluxe burger, onion rings and a Pepsi soft drink, the Tennessee Department of Correction said Wednesday. Irick, who is being held at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville, will eat his last meal before his execution, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday.
The name of the restaurant that prepared the meal was not released out of an abundance of caution, the department said.
Death row inmates are given a $20 limit to spend on their last meal, the Tennessean reported.
Irick was convicted in the 1985 rape and murder of 7-year-old Paula Dyer, who he was babysitting.
The convicted killer is expected to receive a three-drug injection on Thursday. If Irick is executed, it will be the first time Tennessee has applied the death penalty since 2009.
Irick exhausted all his appeals since being convicted and continued over the years to challenge the drugs Tennessee officials used in lethal injections for death row inmates.
On Monday, the state Supreme Court denied a stay of Irick's execution, saying a lawsuit filed by inmates contesting the execution drugs being used wasn't likely to succeed.
The Supreme Court on Thursday also denied his last-minute request for a stay of execution.

They should have let the victim’s father beat him to death in 1985.
Several of Paula’s male relatives should have been allowed to administer real justice to that POS many years ago. And if any of the female relatives wanted to participate all the better.
Liberals want to keep the argument that the death penalty has no deterrent effect so their strategy is to delay for decades in the few places it is imposed.
Timothy McVeigh did get a quick execution but remember, McVeigh himself did all he could to push that along.
Exactly. I dont care what he had for his very last supper. Its the 12,045 suppers weve fed him UNTIL this one that bother me.
>> It takes 33 years to execute a child killer?<<
As I keep saying in response to such travesties, in any truly civilized society criminals such as this one would be tried, convicted, and publicly hanged within 10 days of the commission of their crimes or 10 days after their apprehension. No appeals and no exceptions. And contrary to all the “virtue” talk the real reason this is not standard procedure is because the judges and lawyers make huge salaries by prolonging the adjudication process.
>>Virtually every execution you read about has its crime committed in the 1980s. Elapsed time is usually 30-35 years. I dont get it.<<
See my post, #65.
I can live without the death penalty, provided...
see my FReeper profile for an alternative.
We had 2 in Washington State went pretty quick. They asked for it and chose not to pursue any appeals
Wesley Allan Dodd convicted of child rape and murder, sentenced in 1990 - hanged in 1993
Jeremy Vargas Sagastegui, the triple murderer, plead guilty in 1996 - lethal injection in 1998
What happens to him on earth is nothing compared to what faces him.
Sixty million abortions say otherwise. Life is dirt cheap in these United States of America.
What you say is true.
That’s what makes me think we’re near the end.
HE’S not the oldest one on TN death row, next was in 81 killed 2 men viciously, next up is a elderly woman brutally beat to death killer. Both are scheduled for Execution later this year. They both are now Senior age in 70’s.
She was just 7.

I’m all for swift punishment, but 10 days is wrong. We have corrupt cops, prosecutors, and judges and you can’t guarentee that no one will get railroaded.
What was a 33-year-old man doing babysitting a little child? Probably Mommy’s boyfriend.
At least here at FR, I don’t think there’s much sympathy or pity for the murderer.

It’s not wrong if the perp is caught on camera or by numerous witnesses in the act of perpetrating crimes of torture and/or murder In fact, in my view the preferable outcome would be for the perp to be killed ON THE SPOT.
That’s called lynching. It is assumed by liberals that all lynchings were unjust examples of racism. Some number, however, we’re likely just cases where the prep was caught in the act, and people decided that a trial was not needed.

Perps should be tried, convicted, and hanged within 10 days.
Certainly there could be those type of circumstances and I’m with you there.
