Stop them? Without force? What would you have the cop do? Say “honey please stop”? You got to be joking.
What you need to understand is that any type of force, even a simple grab and restraint, or a take down to the floor can have deadly consequences.
So if you don’t want force, then just let her go. Let her get away with it. While that approach might appeal to BLM activists, us law and order types here at Free Republic are not in favor of it.
Most shoplifters don’t fight if they are caught and there is no need to even touch them. It’s such a minor offense that fighting is not worth it. Only insane people or ignorant young kids like this girl would fight.
If they do run and you can’t hold them without risking injury, you should let the shoplifter go. No need to put anyone’s body at risk over some trinkets

I was shopping at Walmart yesterday. While shopping, an employee engaged me in conversation. After a little “small conversation” he told me (they must have just had an employee meeting) that they were talking about closing our Walmart because of theft! Even though our Super Walmart does a tremendos business, too much profit walks right out the door.
I asked, why don’t you catch and arrest them? He said they can’t.
I have seen on LIVE PD etc. that they can’t arrest you until you leave the store. Some stores choose to stop them inside the store, expose the theft, call police, then permanently “ban” them from the premises.
Shoplifting and the difficulty of stopping and prosecuting it, will be the death of shopping as we know it. This is why Amazon and Walmart stores are transitioning to purchasing online then coming to the store for pick up. Turning the store into essentially a warehouse.
No shoplifting, no cashiers, fewer employees, better bottom line.
The reason behind this?
The removal of GOD from schools and society. MORALS prevented shoplifting (STEALING!) “Thou shalt not steal”.
With the removal of biblical morals from society, society is devolving into anarchy. Without revival, this will continue.
