Me thinks this is a huge UN PR stunt blowing up in their faces. I bet the hoped that violence and bloodshed would break out. That would show the Americans! Instead, their own employees are revolting.

I am a tad confused. The money that paid the Palestinian employees is no longer there. They are protesting to make the US continue paying the money by occupying a site on their own territory...Is there some lever here I am not seeing?

Maybe they are being forced to cut some “shadow employees” who get salaries but don’t work - like local gunmen, or family members of gang bosses.
Maybe they are laying off the unconnected, so they can keep the payoffs flowing to the militant gangs.
Either way, with a 30% budget cut, some people will have to go.
