Scarborough: Ohio election shows GOP becoming a ‘rural party’(Is this a bad thing?)

Results from the Ohio special election on Tuesday support the idea that the GOP is becoming a rural party that could face problems in winning over suburban voters his fall, "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough opined on Wednesday.

"This is a party, the Republican Party, that's becoming more and more every day a rural party," the former GOP congressman, a frequent critic of President Trump, said on his morning MSNBC show.

GOP candidate Troy Balderson holds a narrow lead in the special election race for a House seat, but the result is close enough that it could trigger a recount under state law. Even if Balderson wins, the results are discouraging for Republicans given the district's GOP tilt. It had been held by the GOP since 1983, and Trump won the district by 11 points.

"We don't know who's going to end up winning it. [But] regardless of who ends up winning it, Republicans certainly know as well as Democrats [that] this is another race where Republicans have under performed," Scarborough said.

"They under performed in a district that is deep, deep red," the MSNBC host continued. "I think Democrats have maybe won it once since the 1930s. But you see the same thing happening: they're bleeding. Republicans are bleeding, badly, right now, in suburbs."

Republicans are worried about losing the House majority this fall. Democrats would need to gain 23 seats to win back the House, which will require victories in a number of suburban districts.

The party believes Trump's low approval ratings and dissatisfaction among women over his presidency could help their candidates across the country.

Dozens of GOP seats are seen as toss-ups, and Democrats are favored by election handicappers in around 10 GOP-held seats.

“”a frequent critic of President Trump, said on his morning MSNBC show.””

Frequent critic? Are they kidding? I don’t watch the clown but I see the ridiculous clips. Does he ever talk about anything else?

Cramming too many people together in an urban area causes mental illness.
Liberalism is a mental illness.
Naturally, urban areas are fortresses of liberalism.

It’s only a bad thing in the sense that there’s a lot of votes in the cities, and the GOP needs them, too.

he’s suffering from mika-poisoning.

the country is being divided into two groups: (a) dysfunctional urban megacities, confined or enslaved by their incompetent and corrupt local government (see: flynt, MI, the city that poisoned its own water) that the citizens are simply too ignorant (or indoctrinated) to vote out — it is a massive, self ratifying, self sustaining, circular engine of stupidity, and (b), everyone else.

Bleeding badly in the suburbs?

Here’s why, to the extent it’s true:

Suburbanites work in the cities, where they are exposed to insane levels of hate, hate, hate, hate against Trump and love for political correctness.

If it is a major trend, it’s a little dangerous is that Trump has traded support in suburban districts (carved out to protect Republican majorities in many right-tipping states) for support among blacks and Hispanics who want jobs, safety, and a shot at equal access to everything good. Their explosively leftist managers matter to the suburbanites more than the cabbie who’s deciding maybe Trumpist Republicans have a point.

The juicy part is that underneath, Morning Schmoe, is furious that they lost.

There can be a few takeaways from this. One, the GOP, especially those in the house, need to really GOTV and get people motivated for Nov. Another is that POTUS can really get his backers out to the polls and save elections.

For discussion: Is it a bad thing to be a small-town and rural party?

As jobs followed workers to the suburbs, workers still stayed tied to major metropolitan cities because they now needed TWO jobs and because the career-long job has been considered a thing of the past. A John Deere plant closing down isn’t going to destroy the economy of New York or Philly or Washington or Los Angeles or Seattle.

But are rural areas becoming safer economically? Are businesses in small towns financially healthier, provided they can keep a well-educated workforce? And is that healthiness enough of a counter-weight to keep workers despite the problems of two breadwinners?

Of course it's not a bad thing to be rural.

Joe is showing everyone his east-coast, smug liberal, elitist snobbery.

Make sure you point this out to your rural friends.

Let them know what MSNBC and the mainstream media thinks of them.
