Republican State Sen. Troy Balderson, 56, eked out a win in Tuesday’s down-to-the-wire special election to fill Ohio’s 12th congressional district after trailing Democrat Danny Lawyer much of the evening.

“I thank the thousands and thousands of volunteers who worked in this campaign and I want to thank President Trump and Vice President Pence and the big shoes without whom I would not have gotten through this process, Congressman Pat Tiberi,” said Balderson

Kasich is another John McCain as far as I'm concerned - a disgusting saboteur.

Another part of the good news is that nobody is going to outwork POTUS—and he has already said he’ll be out there repeatedly through the first week of November.

I live in PA 18 as well, and I could tell almost immediately the GOP was likely going to lose... while the candidate was less than stellar it was the messaging that made it certain he was going to lose.

Simply calling your opponent a Pelosi sheep or clone isn’t going to get you votes. They ran messaging that only played to the main core R base and nothing else and he got spanked. Shouldn’t have been closer than 8 points and even with a lackluster candidate should have won comfortably..

Instead they spent 5 million on ads that did not play to anyone outside of the hard core R base and lost it.

You are NOT going to win, particularly up here with that sort of campaigning. Deep red south fine, but here that isn’t the recipe to win!

I was amazed the GOP was actually fighting and doing ground work here but there messaging was all wrong to win...

“Here is what it means. Collusion failed. Obstruction of justice failed, mueller failed . Comey failed. Rosenstein failed, sessions failed”

Correct except the last part - Sessions didn’t fail - it’s the Sessions haters that failed - they have been preaching doom and gloom for the President for a year and a half.

They have claimed ad nauseum that Jeff Sessions single handedly ruined Trump’s presidency on behalf of the deep state by enabling Mueller’s witch hunt, and doomed him to impeachment.

The Sessions haters have been proven wrong again and again, but they won’t admit it. Every week that goes by with Sessions not getting fired proves them wrong. Every week that goes by with Mueller unable to lay a scratch on Trump proves them wrong. Every Trump tax cut, every Trump deregulation, every Trump trade deal, every Trump judicial appointment, every Trump win (and he wins something for us every day) proves the Sessions haters wrong yet again.

If Sessions ruined Trump’s presidency, then why is Trump’s presidency not ruined?

“...any republican in a close race who does not whole heartedly embrace the agenda of Donald Trump will deservedly lose...”

Unfortunately we MAGA supporters do not have the luxury of sitting back and letting them deservedly lose because if the House goes democrat the MAGA agenda is done. They will try impeachment and all investigations into the criminal conduct of crooked Hillary and the criminal FISA warrant spying will cease instantly.

I call 'em like I see 'em. I don't see much fire in heavily Republican OH 12.

No question President Trump pushed Troy Balderson over with that last minute rally.. However.......

Democrat Turnout 87% of 2016 Total —
GOP Turnout Only 40% of 2016 Total

Balderson had 100,052 votes compared to Tiberi’s 251,266 votes in 2016 or 40% of the 2016 turnout.

Clearly, GOP turnout was much higher in 2016, due to incumbency of Patrick Triberi, plus the fact that it was a presidential election year and we had the great Donald Trump running at the top of the ticket. Trump is going to have to work really hard leading up to November to increase GOP turnout, maybe two or three campaign stops a day in late October to early November to push some GOP candidates over the finish line in those competitive House and US Senate seats. It can be done. Bush did it in 2002. Took a lot of campaign stops and hard work though.

The idiots on my local radio station claimed that Trump coming out helped the Democrats! They were more “motivated” to vote to go against Trump. What BS!

Better than the Democrat winning by a coin toss. Balderson will be every bit a House congressman as someone who won by 30% with the same powers to vote.
Incumbents always have much higher name recognition/turnouts than new candidates, so there was always going to be a fall in turnout for the GOP when Tiberi retired.

Ummmm.. no.
Balderson was in a freefall for the last 2 months(falling from an 11 % lead to a deficit of 1% this week). Without the Trump rally, he was toast.

No doubt, plus the media isn't admitting that Dems outspent GOP 3-1.

Your inability to think critically about this race and what it means in November is your problem not mine. The GOP candidate with Trump’s full rally support managed just slightly better than a coin toss in a heavily GOP, heavily white suburban district. If that is the stuff your dreams are made of, then pull your MAGA blanket over your head and go back to sleep.

It’s went waaaaaaaay bigger for Romney than Trump, that tells you the type of R’s that are in this district.
