Full Title: Senate Democrats Introduce Resolution Condemning White House Attacks on Media: The Press Is Not the Enemy
A group of 10 Democratic senators introduced a resolution Wednesday calling on President Donald Trump to not restrict media access to the White House and affirm "the importance of a free and unfettered press."
The resolution is a response to the White House's decision to bar CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins from an open press event last week. It was a punitive measure after Collins asked Trump questions at an Oval Office photo op about a discussion with his former lawyer Michael Cohen about a payoff over an alleged affair. It's common practice for reporters to shout out questions during such occasions, although they frequently aren't answered.
"Punishing reporters for simply doing their job is a strongman tactic that cannot be tolerated in a free democracy. President Trump may not like tough questions, but thats simply too bad," Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D., Conn.), who led the introduction, said in a statement. "Retaliating aBlumenthal's resolution was co-sponsored by nine other Democrats: Sens. Sherrod Brown (Ohio), Patty Murray (Wash.), Tom Udall (N.M.), Bob Menendez (N.J.), Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.), Ron Wyden (Ore.), Cory Booker (N.J.), Ben Cardin (Md.) and Maggie Hassan (N.H.).
They also released statements defending the media, with Menendez saying "the press is not the enemy of the American people," a reference to an attack frequently invoked by Trump.
Trump often blasts the media as "fake news," leading to admonishments from reporters like CNN's Jim Acosta that his invective will encourage someone to hurt a journalist or worse. Acosta tweeted out a widely shared video of him getting heckled by Trump's supporters in Tampa Bay, Florida, on Tuesday.nd banning reporters from public briefings on public property violates a public trust and perhaps the law."
He added the press' role in our democracy is "more critical than ever," according to The Hill.
THEN THEY ARE THE ENEMIES OF THE PEOPLE.
The media claims that they do not tell lies so the following should present no problem to them.
That standard of truth should be formalized and guidelines established.
What we really need is a law that mandates that within any and all News Reports, when actual news is reported, that the reporters are only allowed to report complete, in context, provable, and verifiable facts, with zero editorializing.
That is the true news.
Violate this standard and the individual who spoke the lie, misinformation, or made the mistake, is suspended without pay or benefits for 90 days and the network and/or the employer, or those who produced and broadcast the show, get an automatic million dollar fine.
On a well labeled and separate section of the program clearly labeled, editorials and opinions, draw your conclusions and make your point, BUT, all slander will be prosecuted.
On the editorial portions of their broadcasts,
Any person who slanders another on a news cast by speaking unproven claims as facts, when these claims will or are likely to cause damage to the subjects image, campaign, or to their professional reputation, that person who spoke the slander will be instantly suspended from any and all media work or reporting for at least a month. The originating organization who broadcast the slander will be fined a million dollars, per incident/statement.
This should apply to all media organizations, national and local affiliates who originate the slander with lessor fines to any local media organization who broadcast the information on locally constructed and produced broadcasts.
The originating network should be held to a million dollar fine for each and every violation of these standards and have 60 days to either pay up or prove what was said is true using provable, verifiable facts. If they do not prove what was said or pay up, their license to broadcast will be suspended until they do.
I value truth.
Between citizens on a family, friend, or even casual basis with a stranger our freedom of speech rights should not be infringed. We have the right to opinionate, lie, and slander anyone and everyone we wish to within the existing current laws.
A good bit of our personal interactions are passion driven and that is OK for personal interaction. We are not professionals dedicated to producing the true news as a source of information for the nation.
That is the interaction of citizens.
Licensed media exists in a totally different context.
National and local news has an absolute responsibility to tell us the precise and exact truth.
That is the responsibility of all licensed media.
From those who are responsible for giving us the NEWS, there can be only one standard. That truth must be complete, in context, precise, provable, and verifiable with multiple real and accurate sources each and every time.
This can be the only standard.
If you truly believe in this standard then you should have no problem with these new mandates.
Now my editorial/feelings/opinion.
Screw the media, tell the damn truth, the factual, verifiable, provable truth.
Separate your editorials, opinions, and political propaganda into a different segment of the show so I can turn you off and not have to listen to you tell me how and what I should think.
I am well educated, well traveled, and have broad life experience. I am successful in my careers and within our culture/cultures.
I am capable of taking the simple/real truth and arriving at my own conclusions.
I guess the Demoncrats forget that Obama threw conservative reporters off AF One and dissed FOXs News every chance he got, but that was OTAY.
The Democrats are angry that Trump is attacking a branch of the DNC.
Who cares?
What about speaking out against the media’s attacks on President Trump?
Maybe the press would get respect if they reported the news and not opinion. If obama had brought down black unemployment and higher wages, it would be HUGE PRINT news 24/7. Why doesn’t the press give Trump the credit for his accomplishments? Answer that and you know why we the people detest you the press.
Who. What. Where. When. Why. How.
I was taught that in my High School Journalism class!!
Keep your d@mn OPINION out of it!
18 Feb 2017: Youtube: Pat Caddell: The Press is the Enemy of the American People
President Trump wasn’t the first person to say that the press was the enemy of the American people. Democratic pollster Pat Caddell called them out at an AIM conference in 2012.

PDJT may not have been the FIRST to say it - but it’s finally STICKING! :)
Joshua c said, “Is Trump being misquoted?
I thought he said fake news is the enemy of the people.”
He is 100% correct!!!
Thank you for stating the truth.
Except, we're not a "free democracy". We are a.....
FREE REPUBLIC!
Of course the Democrats don’t like their propaganda arm being called out.
Duh.
It's common practice to shoot people in Chicago, is that why they do so little about it? (Other than ban guns).
